Butt cap is similar to ones used on a fishing rod. I just measured it and it is 1.5 inches in diameter, so, unless you have really narrow rod holders you should be good

Is this gaff good for bluefin tuna fishing?

Yes it would work for that, but if it is really big you may need 2 or 3 to get more muscle on it to lift it on board. The limiting factor would likely be what you can pull up over the rail rather than the limitations of the gaff
