I should have ordered these sooner
I have 2 different compressors, and they both needed new air filters. I kept hesitating to actually buy them, and now that I have these I wish I had gotten them sooner. They are sturdy and well made, doing exactly what they should. The first is a Porter Cable pancake compressor. I ordered it years ago from Amazon and when it arrived I found that the filter had been damaged during shipping. Amazon did not have a replacement available, so they gave me a credit to purchase something locally. All that I could find locally was 1/2, so I ended up with a bigger filter and a bulky thread adapter. This replacement filter screwed right in and fits perfectly. My second compressor is a larger Campbell Hausfield. The filter on that compressor got banged into and broke. Unfortunately that compressor does not have a screw-in filter like these and instead has a design that requires removing the head from the compressor to replace it with an extremely overpriced and non-standard filter. Since I had to remove the head, I installed one of these filters instead and used some JB Weld to fill in the larger space in the head. It is working perfectly and I am very happy with the result. Overall, these are great. If you need a couple of new filters, or even 1 new and 1 spare, I highly recommend these.

Be very careful with the mystery pipe threads
This product, and others like it, are listed here with a male fitting size of โ " male pipe thread at 16 mm OD. The 16 mm OD measures close but there is no way it's a standard โ " male pipe fitting either. Standard SAE pipe threads are tapered, however these threads are not tapered. โ " SAE pipe threads have a thread count of 18 TPI (threads per inch) and the threads on this product do not. I have a Starret SAE thread gauge showing this somewhere between 18 and 20 TPI. I cannot say they are 19 TPI because the gauge does not have a "19", which is not a standard SAE thread count. It's also not a standard pitch for metric pipe threads. When you convert 19 TPI to metric, you get a 1.33 mm thread pitch. However, when looking at the chart of metric pipe thread sizes, you should either have 1.0 mm or 1.5 mm... there is no such thing as 1.33 mm thread pitch... not even close. What't that leave us with? "BSPP", which stands for British Standard Parallel Pipe. The โ " BSPP fitting has no taper and the thread count is supposed to be 19 TPI. The OD of โ " BSPP is specified as 0.656" (16.66 mm). Measuring just a hair under 41/64" OD with a TPI between 18-20, this fitting is almost an exact match to the BSPP standard. I have one of these cheap imported 6-gallon portable compressors sold by Coleman Powermate about 10 years ago, but I'm pretty sure it's the same as a DeWalt, Craftsman, and other brands of this style and vintage. The fittings on this machine also measure 19 TPI straight but the ID of the female threads on my machine seem a hair smaller than the pipe fitting on this filter. Regardless, the entire catalog of parts for my machine are officially obsolete so I am just trying to match up any of these generic parts that fit. The filter screws onto the head but gets pretty tight really quick. I taped it up to protect the threads on the machine and got maybe a turn or two before it made me somewhat uncomfortable about stripping the aluminum threads in the head. My suggestion for anyone that doesn't want to take a chance with these threads, just drill out and re-tap your machines aluminum head to accept standard SAE pipe threads assuming you can even get parts that are actually made to SAE standards. Or maybe just run a โ " BSPP pipe tap through it if you can find one. Meanwhile, I packed the empty top space in this filter canister with shredded cotton denim packing material as a pre-filter medium to protect the paper filter, and it runs even quieter than before. Shredded denim is fluffy and soft, similar to a cotton ball but more coarse like chopped up yarn. It's important to use 100% natural fibers like cotton in case any of it is sucked into the compressor, it won't scratch or do any damage. I supposed you could use any foam element from a small engine too, to help the paper element last longer; just cut it into a disk. Since apparently nobody sells the paper elements, might as well try to make it last as long as possible.

Fits perfectly!!
I have Harbor Freight 17 gal red upright air compressor (model 68066). It use 3/8 PT 16mm. I use caliper to measure and did some research because HF no longer sells Central Pneumatic air compressor. 3/8 PT fits perfectly! I screwed in and had no issue with it. Glad that I ordered correct one. I have 2nd filter came with it so I keep it as backup in case if it breaks off or get dirty. Worth it!!

Poor quality, Hard to open
Fits well but is hard to open to replace the filter and the locking tabs on the cover won't engage.
