Is the nut on the p-trap or the 90 angle piece?

The nut is on the p-trap. The 90 has the threads.

Are the threads on the nut compatible with 1 1/2 inch male fittings on 1 1/2 inch pipe or are they a different thread at the junction?

I had the same problem. The threads and the centerline dimensions are not standard. If you have Nibco fittings you will need Nibco. You have to match the new with what you have. Good luck. Order an extra so you will have one if you need it again.

Does anyone know the thread pitch of the union?

All I know is that if your are replacing your sink traps. You have to use the same make of trap that you are replacing. They are not interchangeable. The threads are different and the centerline of the 0trapscare not the same.
