I received a Kirby G2000 "Limited Edition" vacuum cleaner for Mother's Day last year.(Anyone out there willing to talk to my husband about appropriate Mother's Day gifts? Anyone??)I have resented the dang vacuum since I got it. I've always bought cheap, throw-away vacuums because of just that -- when they break, I don't have to take them to some special place to be fixed, I can just toss 'em and get a new cheap one. There are decent, will-get-the-job-done vacuums out there in the sub-$100 range.BUT, my hubby likes good return on investment and NOT filling up landfills with old equipment, blah blah blah.So I had used my Kirby pretty sparingly over the months on my main level carpet mostly. Dragging that behemoth up and down the stairs made me angry with my husband each time, and who wants to be angry with their spouse?, so I just ignored the dirt build-up on the other levels most of the time.Eventually, though, the Kirby stopped working because I had filled the bag past the magic line. I hadn't even SEEN this line before opening the back to inspect the problem. The Kirby didn't come with replacement bags and whatever slick salesman had talked Hubby into this machine was nowhere to be found.Of course, the only possible answer was to be found on Amazon. That's right. A new vacuum! I researched and researched and finally found one on sale for $65. It had great reviews. But then, just as I was about to buy it, the price jumped to $90. Oh well. I figured I'd wait it out and the price would drop again eventually.In the meantime, the carpets happily accumulated dust, dirt, and a small population of carpet beetle larvae.Enter my mother-in-law.The hubby gets his practicality from somewhere. Somewhere is this woman. Now, don't get me wrong, she's wonderful. I've learned that her way of loving me is to perform service maintenance on my home. Whenever she arrives, she instantly goes to my sink and washes the dishes. She folds laundry. She weeds gardens. At some point, I decided to stop being offended and start seeing it as the blessing it is.But then came the day she realized that the carpets were in desperate need of vacuuming.I explained to her the situation.Her answer was, "Why don't you see if you can find the right bags on Amazon?"I'm not sure why I hadn't thought of that, except we all know it was because I resented (resent. present tense) that Kirby and was just looking for a way to get it out of my house. So, to make her happy, I did a quick search for the bags to match the bag already on my vacuum.Which leads me to these bags.I ordered them. They arrived a couple of days later. I put them on my counter and stared at them with hatred for a couple more days.Finally, the sun was shining, my dopamine or seratonin or whatever chemicals were in some happy balance, and I decided to vacuum. With the Kirby.And the bag worked. Like a charm. Like a stinkin', never-gonna-get-rid-of-this-danged-machine charm.Not sure what else I can say about these.The el cheapo vacuum is still sitting in my "to buy later" Amazon cart, waiting for the price to drop. Except now, with these replacement bags, dangit! I'm probably stuck with the Kirby indefinitely.
