Cord wears out
My kids can be rough on stuff but cord insulation should last better. The speaker size is nice for kids, and the sound quality isn't great but it met expectations. I'm disappointed that the cord didn't last a month. I loved the price and the speaker is good, and if you don't move it around a lot the cord wouldn't be stressed and break so easily. We're replacing these with Bluetooth speakers so we don't have to deal with this issue.

A good speaker
This little speaker provides a good sound quality for a price. I use it with my computer, iPhone and iPad. Unfortunately, due to technology advances, itโs becoming less compatible with these things. Donโt store it closed, the spring system fails immediately, itโs not robust.

Good for the price
It's ok for me. My husband doesn't like it at all. My cd player stopped working in my car and since the radio is terrible these days, I prefer to have other options for listening to music. This works fine for my car but the sound's low and it just doesn't sound that great.

EXCELLENT, BUT NOT THE BEST
I have a Kinivo ZX100 and just got the Xboom today and did a comparison test of both (using Pentatonix's version of "Stuck Like Glue" from "The Sing Off" on YouTube ... a great little test song). They both have great sound, and I cannot say one sounds better than the other (it would take a better trained ear than mine), and both have an impressively booming base. However, where the Kinivo is solidly built of quality, rubberized plastic and looks very slick indeed, the Xboom is made of cheap plastic that makes it a far more fragile device than the Kinivo, and it looks like some cheap Chinese toy. The Kinivo is somewhat louder on the highest volume setting too and it has a wider and more stable stance than the Xboom. But the Xboom, when folded, is a bit smaller and more compact, and it's On/Off and Volume switches are easier to use. With care the Xboom should make almost anyone a happy camper, but the Kinivo is the solid winner here and certainly worth the extra dollar or two.ADDENDUM: I did some further research on Amazon and have found that the Xboom device seems to be identical to several others (except for cosmetics), namely, the Alpatronix AX100, AYL Mini, X-Mini II XAM4-B, X-Mini Rave/Wave, and the Rokono. If you like the Xboom, you might do well to choose the lowest-price speaker in this list. I'd bet they all sound the same, and feature-wise, they ARE the same. The Kinivo has a copycat too, the SHARKK. It's space-agey looking as opposed to slick (a Hummer to the Kinivo's Porsche), but it has the SAME basic look and identical operation buttons, and a much better price. At $12.99 Prime, the SHARKK is the best deal amongst all these mini speakers.

Returning item after 3 hours of use.
This speaker is useless. My phone's built-in speaker is just as loud. I initially wanted to speaker for podcasts and talk radio while outside while gardening. The speaker was always within a few feet but even when amplified with a bucket I can barely hear a thing. Second Star because the size (a small plum when closed) is nice but the material is cheap and I'm afraid it could easily be broken when trying to close and lock the accordion center.

Amazing Value
This is a great mini speaker. I use it to listen to a tablet when the the internal speaker isn't loud enough. I like the way the XBOOM compacts into a ball for easy storage. The only negative to the product for me, is the cord is too short. My electrical outlets are all 12" off the counter, and the USB cord is only a few inches long. I could plug the USB directly into the tablet, but that causes the tablet to discharge too quickly.Still, this is great value for the money. The sound is amazing for its size.

Stopped expanding after a couple months of use
It was great at first! Sound quality impressed me for such a tiny thing and the battery life was impressive. After a couple months, the spring stopped stretching out to its expanded size, so the sound quality wasn't good. I tried to expand the ball further to restore the original sound quality, but the two sides snapped apart. Now it's dead. :(

it's a pretty good little unit
For what it is, it's a pretty good little unit. Don't expect this to pound your heart with huge bass or rock out like you're at a metallica concert... I got this for using at my desk at work. It's perfect for that. It does seem to be pretty good quality. With the volume turned all the way up, it doesn't distort very noticeably. Nice, cheap unit to get away from using headphones when you want.
