Bill Owens: Altamont 1969

Let me say that any book release with additional unseen photos from Altamont is a net positive in my opinion. A couple facts disclosed by Bill Owens in the book are a) he left Altamont before the Stones took the stage and b) most of the photo negatives from that day were later stolen and thus not included in this book. What you see are the leftovers from that day. Most photos are of the crowds at Altamont, either arriving or waiting for the music to begin. A few photos mixed in look as if they were not taken at Altamont at all. The few photos of the musicians you do get on stage are good. They only include photos from the sets of Santana and Jefferson Airplane. No new photos of Gram Parsons or the other Flying Burrito brothers, CSNY, or The Rolling Stones. Other than the text and a couple distant photos of Mick Jagger in a crowd arriving at Altamont, the book does not have any new images of the Stones. Overall a decent book of images but understand what you are getting.
