A Week in the Zone: A Quick Course in the Healthiest Diet for You

The Best Explanation of Why Diets Work or Don't work.
This book was recommended by my physician 5 months ago and I honestly can tell you it is the best explanation of why people get fat int he first place--no, smart alecks, it's not just because we eat too much, though naturally that's part of it, but because we do not know how to choose and combine foods that will control our hormones, especially insulin. I've followed the principles and have lost almost 30 lbs without trying, other than to be faithful to have protein, carbs and fat at every meal and in the right ratios so that one can control the insulin intake, the uptake and to minimize excess storage. The miracle of this program (it's not a diet). is that it helps one lose FAT, not valuable muscle tissue. So to be honest, I actually looked thinner after just 2 weeks even though the scales only showed 5 lb loss. The main take-away in this program is regarding your food, your meals no differently than we do our medicines.

Simplest diet ever, especially for the Insulin Resistant crowd
If you look in the mirror and you're fat, you are probably insulin resistant. I was diagnosed with this condition a year ago. The dietician I saw gave me a very complex, difficult to follow diet. I've been looking for an easier plan and this is it. My dietician was prescribing way too many bread and rice carbs for me and it wasn't working. A Week in the Zone is a brief overview of The Zone Diet. This overview is easy to read and the plan is very easy to implement. My husband and I are already feeling better and he lost 2 lbs the first week. This is a very practical meal design, not a fad diet. The "zone" simply refers to keeping glucose and insulin levels in a safe range. My dietician had said that if I get my insulin levels in balance then the weight will come off. I'm looking forward to seeing these results. It is not a fast weight loss plan. Rather a meal design that is all about balancing veggie carbs, lean protein, and good fats for overall health.

Get a Head Start/Melt the Fat
Give you a good start on the Zone - with meals and a good explanation as to why this diet works. I have done this diet years ago with great success. I have recently been on it - not following in it to the letter but at least when I am eating something, I know what puts on the fat and what takes it off (even without exercising it works). It's very clear and gives lots of ideas and tips. The only negative is, it is limiting if you follow it exactly and you cannot keep it up forever. That's why I only take the info as a suggestion.

description. Book. Would recommend it to anyone. Great book with menu and shopping suggestion. If you are wanting to start eating wiser and intern loose Westend for improving what you put in your body, this is the book for you! NOT a book about losing weight quickly or starving yiurself.

This Guy Is No Chef
I can't speak to the theory behind this diet. Whether the diet keeps your insulin within a favorable zone, or whether doing that has beneficial health effects. What I can say after a few days is that this program is not for the faint of heart. You'll be consuming fruits and vegetables in quantities you never dreamed of. And if you have any issues with gastric acidity, I don't know how you'll get past the first day.One thing he says is certainly true: You won't be hungry. Here's Day 1 breakfast for a man: 1 cup cottage cheese, 1 cup pineapple, 2/3 cup mandarin orange, and 4 macadamia nuts. All good food, and if you can eat that 2 days in a row without retching, this is the diet for you. It's just too much fruit. Here's a dinner, stir-fried in only 1-1/3 TEASPOONS of olive oil: 6 oz. tofu, 1-1/2 cups onions, 2 cups broccoli, 2 cups mushrooms, 1 ounce (1 deli slice) low-fat Swiss cheese. Plus a cup of grapes for dessert. If you're willing to dedicate yourself to mounds of unflavored vegetables and gobs of fruit for the sake of your health, this is the meal for you. Why this recipe? Because it adds up to his dietary theory.I'm trying it for a few days longer. But here's my advice: Don't hesitate to add soy sauce, Worchestershire, balsamic vinegar, or a little Ceasar dressing to the vegetables. Certainly you'll need more olive oil. And don't be afraid to substitute some "unfavorable carbohydrates" (whole-grain bread, brown rice, etc.) for half the carbs. He gives you the info you need, or you can go to a site like [...] for carb counts. It can save you from following a lunch of tuna salad with half a cantaloupe filled with 3/4 cup of blueberries. All good, but just plain too much.

WOW... a life changing experience.
WONDERFUL BOOK!! I used to be quite overweight. Ate bread, pasta and rice often and was very unhappy carrying around the extra pounds and felt so unattractive. The Zone diet is AMAZING!!! I now eat 3 healthy meals daily, plus 2 snacks and feel ful and energized. I lost 15 pounds in 2 months. I have an abundance of energy and never feel sluggish. bad carbs made me extremely lethargic. Protein, vegetables and fruits are the main staples of my diet now. I finally feel confident when looking in the mirror. I suggest everyone buy this book if they want to feel fantastic and gain more confidence!

I only bought to see what was new in health ...
I only bought to see what was new in health world and did not understand the main idea.Just my friend told me about this book, but frankly, I did not accept the idea. No additional opinions.

An addendum to the original
This book was very short and really only answered a few of my additional questions after reading the first book. I still can't figure out how to calculate blocks when you have complex foods with differing amounts of carbs, fat, protein. How do I know if its a partial block of each, or a full block of one? I am still confused. This book did help with a few recipes and easy ideas for different block meals. Ultimately a FAQ guide would be super helpful.
