Great Field Watch
Based on the Swiss ETA 2801-2 manual wind movement, this 38 mm diameter 9.6 mm thin watch is great for someone wanting to experience a classic field watch. The original Hamilton company made many such watches over the years as a supplier to the US military. It partnered with Buren, a Swiss brand, when production was moved to Switzerland in 1969. The company was purchased By SSIH in 1971. This watch recalls the feel and function of the past. The watch features a hacking movement, an 80 hour power reserve with luminous hands and triangular hour markers. The tip of the seconds hand is luminous. The luminous material has a yellowish color in daylight, giving it an older vintage aesthetic. In the dark it glows green. The Arabic dial has an inner race of smaller 24 hour indicators that contribute to the functional feel of this watch. In line with that functionality, the case is bead blasted overall with no polished surfaces. The watch has a sapphire crystal. The solid back shows the Hamilton logo, model and serial number, also indicating water resistance of 5 bar. The signed 6.5 mm crown feels right. Sufficiently large and knurled for easy winding and a good grip when setting the watch. Mine runs a little fast. The watch gains 4 to 18 seconds per day depending on state of wind and position. Your mileage may vary. With 21,600 VPH this 25 jewel movement has that vintage look to the seconds hand movement and sings when I listen to it. Overall, very satisfying. One will notice a gap between the watch case and spring bar when on a strap. Thanks to this gap and the relatively long 47 mm lug to lug length, this watch lends itself well to a NATO strap. The drilled lugs make strap changing very easy. If you like to change straps frequently, this watch is a versatile choice. If you are considering a mechanical watch that is durable, light, legible and easy to wear, this field watch would be a great companion. For anyone concerned about owning a manual wind watch, the need to interact with your watch every day or two is a good thing. With the 80 hour power reserve, it will keep running over the weekend without needing to be set. Since it has no date complication, it is easily wound and set if it is allowed to run down. But I'll bet you will want to wear this watch often enough so it never stops.

Solid low profile field watch
I am not a watch aficionado and this is my first mechanical watch. After 10 days here are my impressions: looks great and keeps a fairly low profile compared to bulkier watches. Metal case, black face, and pale yellow lume contrast each other handsomely. The lume also works well in the dark. Nato strap was comfortable out of the box and seems durable. As for accuracy, mine seems to gain about 5-6 seconds per day. From what I have read this is pretty decent for a mechanical watch of this price. Keep in mind that if you are buying this watch off of an Amazon seller for 30% off retail, then you are likely getting a limited warranty. The seller I used, Watchsavings, has 2 year warranty but it only covers mechanical defects, not water damage. If you buy this watch for full price from Hamilton you get a 2 year warranty from that includes water damage...so that is likely what the extra $150 gets you. I have not tested the water resistance of this watch but from some other reviews it seems some folks have had issues even though it is rated to 50M, so I am being careful for now. All in all, after 10 days it seems like a solid, quality, pretty accurate mechanical watch that looks great, especially if you prefer watches that are on the simpler side and not too bulky or flashy.

Basically a vintage watch with new components
Im a avid watch collector. Ive always wanted this watch but ive always just passed on it saving for higher end pieces. Im really glad I finally got this piece. First i will talk about all the great aspects of this watch. This watch is extremely thin for a mechanical time piece due to it being a manual wimd watch. This doesn't sound like a huge deal but compared to a dive watch or a chronograph this watch disappears on your wrist and doesn't get hung up on clothing or smack things accidentally walking around. Due to this watches simplicity i believe it will be extremely durable and fills the role of a field watch nicely. This watch is also extremely legible with farely good lume. As for the movement this is hard to believe but the accuracy has been phenomenal. Ive timed it over a few days and its gains or looses about a second a day depending on how much it is wound. Accuracy will taper off during the end of its power reserve and it will lose about 5 seconds a day which is still fantastic for a watch at this price point. I own much higher end watches from omega and tudor that dont keep as accurate time as this watch when its fully wound. The build quality and finishing of the case is quite good. Also unlike many other value oriented brands the strap it comes on is high quality also. The bad aspect of this watch is it basically isnt water resistant at all. You cant shower with this watch on or even wash your hands with it really. Its basically like having a vintage watch with new components inside. If you can live with this than enjoy having a great watch. I will be wearing it during the colder months and out in the field hunting and fishing as its supposed to be used. If your into water sports like i am just remember to just wear a dive watch instead and leave this at home. Enjoy

Watch is fine; vendor questionable.
The Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical Watch is just what I wanted, and performs as expected. It's a wind-up, mechanical watch. That means it won't be as accurate as a watch with a quartz movement, and will run a bit fast or slow every day. You must wind it every day, taking care not to over wind it. Only with experience with your particular watch will you get a feel for how many times to turn the crown to get the proper level of winding. Still, every feature is just what I expected. There are, however, some issues. Fresh Pearl, the vendor may be just fine. I haven't contacted them at this point, but probably will. They sent the watch with the warranty card left blank. This is not unusual. Even if you're present in the store, some vendors will ignore this. With a blank card, your warranty is worthless. If that matters to you, I would purchase elsewhere. The fact that the card was left blank, for me, is a red flag and I'll try to avoid this vendor if I cannot get some satisfaction when I call them. Just to be clear: It's a great watch. I love it and will wear it, hopefully, for years to come. I do hope you realize what you're buying if you jump for this item. Also, the vendor matters. Sometimes even the best product requires service or arrives broken.

Believe the hype
I have only had the watch for a little over a day, but it is everything I hoped it would be so far. The accuracy is phenomenal, with roughly -1.5 seconds after about 30 hours. The lume is great, despite what other have said. Bright when charged and easily visible in the middle of the night after your eyes have adjusted (when it actually matters). Woke up around 4am to roll over and checked the time. As easy to read as any seiko. The band is comfortable and attractive. Easily fits under the cuff of my flight suit. Simple, no-nonsense dial. Great winding action. To me, right up there with the SARB-033 in this price range. It is the quintessential mechanical watch, and a great addition to any collection, especially if that collection is lacking a no date manual wind.

Classic Army Mechanical Field Watch
This watch is a tribute to the classic Army-issue field watch from the Vietnam era. I’ve had this watch for a year now. It is a comfortable and classic looking field watch. I get a lot of compliments for its simplicity and vintage look. I replaced the original with an OD green 20mm NATO strap. The watch keeps pretty good timing with regular winding, and I try to wind it every morning. Over the course of a week it may lose a minute or two, but that’s likely to my failure to wind regularly. A simple reset and wind puts of back on track. Timing: A- Water resistance: A+ Look: A+ Price: A- Overall: A- This is a perfect watch if you need a classic look and the reliability of a mechanical watch that doesn’t require movement or batteries. For $400, I give it an A-

High quality basic watch
I bought this because I wanted basic mechanical watch without date. I normally wear Rolex, but for yard work, shop projects, camping, etc I did not want to risk a Rolex. Since I wear it intermittently, self winding (automatic) was not helpful, and I did not want hassle of resetting the date. The movement is very accurate, gains 5-10 seconds per day. The lug width is 20mm, so many standard straps can be fitted. Is comes with nylon NATO band, but I replaced with leather one. Highly recommended. I forgot to discuss the sapphire crystal, which for me is essential; I hate scratches. There is no anti-reflection coating, but this is not a problem with reading the dial.

Great temporary field watch if you only need one for 9 months…
Bought this watch instead of taking a chance with a used 30-50 year old unit. Even though this says Hamilton store, it’s a 3rd party and not an authorized dealer, so no stamped warranty card and no 24 month factory warranty. Figured that a new watch, even of questionable quality, should make it more than 9 months. You’re better off taking a chance on a vintage one as if it fails at least it has some historical value unlike this modern junk. You can certainly do better with $400 to spend. Also, these units seem to have warranty issues with failed main springs and back order delays for parts from Hamilton. Some repairs have failed after coming out of warranty and then having to be sent back again. Save your time and money. Swiss quality doesn’t mean much anymore either.
