The E35 Will Not Check All the Boxes, But Will Change Your Life!
WARNING: This review is LONG! But I wanted to do a good job of conveying information and there really is a lot to learn on these things. I've also been using the E35 for about 2 months now, and have gone through everything from research to contacting Customer Service. In order to not make this another dull paper to read, I've tried to put some jokes in here and there. So consider yourself warned and buckle up for a good read, or move on to the next paper thin review of 'It's shiny out of the box!', 'I got shipped the wrong thing...', or 'I broke it.'Before buying the E35, I did some pretty 'thorough' research on most of the available models of robot cleaners today (less than 24hrs cause, ya know, Prime Day; but so focused!).And what I found is, there are an overwhelming number of features out there for your new cleaning companion cube! It's an exciting time for robot kind in 2019, and no the E35 doesn't check all of the boxes, but none of them do. NONE OF THEM DO!!!!! Realize that you're going to have to make a short list of the features most important to you and you will be making a COMPROMISE in the end. And what may be important to you, may not be what's important for us. And for us, after spending a ridiculous amount of time weighing the options like only an old woman can picking out what color drapes she should get (taupe or off-taupe), the E35 was the best model for our needs in our price range ($300-$400; ~280 Prime Day).At the time of this review, we've now been using the E35 for ~2 months... So lets go through what we were looking for, what we were promised by Roborock with the E35, and how that actually stood up.First up, honorable mention to a fantastic Youtube channel on vacuum reviews, Vacuum Wars. In all of that focused research I did, no other source I came across was (in my opinion) more complete in the features it reviewed or as integral in their conclusions for robot vacuums. I can't vouch for the uprights they review, but I highly suggest you start there for robots at least. So our situation is:1. Dogs - We have dogs. And they shed, a lot. Ability to pick up hair is a must and, please, please little robot don't get tangled like Flynn Rider in Tangled.Roborock Promise: Comes with an 'Anti-Tangle Brush'..... Riiiiiiiight, like I haven't seen a marketing gimmick before.....2. Medium Pile Carpet AND Hard Flooring - If you're just starting out, you may not realize how important this is, but oh, it is sooooooo important...Roborock Promise: 'Carpet Sense' and '2000 Pa of Suction'... Automatic adjustment of suction power based on what the robot 'senses'. Saves battery life and allows me to whisper sweet nothings to my wife in the kitchen... And can suck, a lot. In a good way... Ok, I'm game, even though I don't really know what that means.3. Kids - Yes, kids love robots. Until they bite. And the little black robot disk may not be all that threatening and move slow and look so cute that you JUST HAVE TO NAME IT, but you will forget about it and THAT'S when it'll strike.Roborock Promise: 'Gentle Bumping'... There are so many non-PC jokes in here, but let's keep it clean and just say that men are not honest creatures. So is a man telling me this is 'Gentle', or is it a woman? Let's find out!4. Multiple Floor House - If your robot 'maps' a floorplan for efficiency (and most do in the price range), nothing quite challenges that like saying 'but what if the floorplan changes EVERY TIME'.Roborock Promise: Route Planning... Kk, I can deal, I just hope its better than Mapquest. Does anyone still use that service? What about Myspace? Totally dating myself I'm sure...5. Battery Life - I need this thing to vacuum my house, not spend all day charging. And I'm not paying for multiple docks cause I'm cheap like that and that's a cop out solution.Roborock Promise - 150min of non-stop cleaning... I hope they actually mean real cleaning and not just running around on such a low power that I might as well get out a broom and try sweeping my carpet.Alright, so 1.5 months of use, AAAAAND.....If you can't tell by the headline of the review, I really like this machine. My wife also LOVES it. She runs it every day on all the three levels of our house (and no it's not a mansion, just a tri-level, so think 2k sq ft). Yes, it's not as quite as good as a real vacuum, but it gets incredibly close, cleans under furniture we'd never vacuum under with an upright, and our house actually FEELS cleaner because it's getting cleaned much, much more often. Oh, and we really can't put a price on the time we get back in our day or the amount of effort we save for more valuable things (like coming up with sweet nothings). For the most part, the promises that I bought the machine for really do hold (to my total surprise) true:'Anti-Tangle Brush' - Really does a good job! I mean, you're still going to get hair somewhere on the brush and eventually your going to want to cut some of that out. But they do give you a nice little tool in the package to do that and for the most part it's minimal. I think even though the app has told me to clean the brush 3 times now (we've got over 4.5k min logged of actual cleaning) I've only really had maybe one or two strands to cut out. My Dyson is worse than that.'Carpet Sense' and '2000 Pa of suction'- I have no idea how much 2000 Pa is, but the robot does a pretty good job on both fronts. Can get a little confused when really small rugs are involved, but overall turns on at appropriate times. I can definitely feel that just vacuumed clean on my carpets. And I've never had anything stick to the bottom of my feet on my hard floors. Oh, and my rugs on those hard floors feel so good on my feet now that they're getting cleaned... Not once has it pulled any of them up either. Super impressed, granted we don't have any with those frilly strands on the ends. Again, your situation might be different!'Gentle Bumping' - Must've been a woman's gentle. Not quite like a loving caress, but more like a playful nudge. No kids being nipped here, but I have actually seen it run into table legs if they're thin. The E35 has a 'Geordi La Forge' like black visor that must have some sensors as 'eyes', and every once in a while the E35 just can't seem to see those thin objects. Not a huge biggie though since it seems to see us fat Americans just fine.'Route Planning'- Not actually bad. Even though we've been moving it from floor to floor, the robot always seems to do a good job of mapping the room and going in an organized 'line' pattern every time. I'm sure it would be slightly more efficient if it had the same floor plan to use every time, but I'm very happy with the algorithms this uses.'Battery Life'- Not sure if it really lasts 150min, but I've left this this on default settings with the 'Carpet Sense' on and it's managed to do the whole house (~2,000 sq ft) with still 23% remaining. And again, super happy with the way the robot cleans both hard floors and carpets with these settings. 100% happy customer. So in the end, we're very happy with our purchase and look forward to having a happier, cleaner household. Money well spent.Oh, and one more thing, I did actually need to reach out recently to the Customer Service Team as we started to get a burning smell last week. Super concerning, I know. But the CS rep reached out to us within 24hrs and gave us some things to try and troubleshoot. The instructions sounded ridiculous, cause it was like, turn the machine on it's side and 'lightly tap the device' and 'put a new filter in'. But give it an honest chance please. Once we took them seriously, it did actually solve our problem. Very impressed considering pretty much everything in this price range is pretty much not going to be made in a country where the CS is expected to be good...Anyway, thanks for sticking with me through my report. Hope you had some laughs along the way and can now frolic away into robot land better equipped to make an informed decision. Till next time!

All in all, I found a keeper, and so have you.
NOTE: If you'd like to skip the lengthy review, a list of pros and cons are at the bottom. Now, on with the review. First off, I had zero issue with connecting it to my home wifi. I included the steps I took in my comment section, as well as a link to an article and a YouTube video that should help.Ultimately I found the entire unpacking and connection experience to be pretty straight forward once I read the directions in the manual and played around with my bluetooth and wifi settings on my phone. I love how everything just works! I even tried running it briefly using the buttons on the top of the vacuum and it did a beautiful job. So to answer one question that was asked, yes it does work without being connected to wifi or using the app.Without wifi or the app, the E35 will clean and redock itself using standard suction only. You can also do a spot clean, by placing the bot vac in the area you want cleaned and pushing the spot clean button on top. Lastly there is a button with a picture of a plug on top. This is the recharge button and it allows you to stop the vacuum mid cleaning and have it return to the docking station. Wifi though? That's what really makes this vacuum pretty amazing. The benefit of wifi is beung able to use it with the app which allows you additional features. Those features include, changing the suction mode from standard to a slightly higher suction mode and then to the max suction mode. You can also set it ti detect when it's in hard floor versus carpet and auto adjust the suction accordingly. I can verify this works brilliantly. The app also allows you to set a cleaning schedule, and spot clean and it also allows you to see a map of what the vacuum has cleaned and how much more is left. Finally the app allows you to control the robot manually with two styles of remote onscreen. Also with the app, you are able to have the vacuum start when you are not at home. So yes while, wifi and the app are absolutely wonderful, and take the vacuum to a whole new level, you can still use it without wifi to perform standard cleanings of your whole place and you can expect it to restock itself afterwards. One other thing is while this vacuum does have mopping ability, you have to have the app to use that function. So about the mopping feature. I have not actually used the mopping feature yet but something to keep in mind is that it does not detect carpet so you will need to use magnetic strips or closed doors, etc. to block areas you dont want mopped as it can not differentiate between floor types when mopping. What does make this vacuum so wonderful is the way it cleans. It makes those wonderful, non chaotic line movements (S/U shape), which look so neat and orderly. It impresses me to watch it, to see it make movements that make sense. It's a relief, as a person with OCD tendencies at times lol.Something else I love about it is, if you do have home wifi, it is so easy to connect it and get it to stay connected to my home network. Once I set it up, and let it charge to 100%, which took about an hour and a half (maybe?), it was at around 22% out of the box, I used the app to start it's first full run of my apartment minus two of the bedrooms. One bedroom is storage and the floor is inexcessable and the other bedroom isn't set up yet so there was no point in letting it run in there. So with about 90% of my apartment being wood, laminate, and tile and just a few small rugs here and there, it took Reginald 88 minutes to clean approx 905 sq ft. It cleaned with the initial straight lined S shaped pattern then went around the edges and it looked wonderful afterwards. The most latest cleaning took it 95 minutes to vacuum 100 m2. That includes a living room, kitchen/dining area, a bathroom and two bedrooms and based on the map afterwards, and how clean my floor looks, it does a very thorough job.I have 3 cats and two litter boxes with thin rubberized plastic rugs with grooves in them to catch the litter and despite how thin they where, they did not get rolled up or sucked up in the vacuum even once. Reginald traversed around the edges of and even on to the tops of the bases of several pieces of cat furniture with ease. The one and only time it got stuck was underneath my dresser and frankly, I thought the dresser was too low for it to even go under there. When it did get stuck, I not only recieved a text message from Reginald, I heard it say it was stuck, albeit in a female's voice lol. I came and pulled it out from under the dresser, set it on the floor and hit the power button, as directed, and Reginald carried right on where he left off. I do not have any thresholds between rooms so Reginald rolled into each room without any issue. Scratch that I do have one raised wooden strip that goes into one of the bedrooms and it went over it just fine. He cleaned my bathroom rugs, 2 memory foam and one a regular shag type, with zero issue, the only signs he'd been in the bathroom were neat, orderly lines on nicely vacuumed rugs.Once Reginald's job was complete, he announced he was done and returned to the base to charge without any issue whatsoever. I just moved into the apartment last Wednesdy so it did not look dirty at all but imagine my surprise when I saw all that dirt and cat hair. I have 3 cats, and two extra large litter boxes with an occasional small dog that comes up to visit briefly, not to mention the assortment of cat scratchers and cat furniture, all with bases that are close to an inch thick and Reginald tackles the bases as best he can and although it looks like he should get stuck, he hasn't.The Roborock E35 is marvelous and it works right out of the box without the app or wifi, just like it is supposed and if you do have wifi, setting it up on network and creating automatic cleaning times is just easy and hassle free thanks to the well designed Mi App.. The only thing missing from this vacuum is the ability to draw no go lines in app. If it could do that it would be perfect. Then again if it could do that you'd be paying the same price as the S50. So if you want a great robot vacuum without the greatly increased price that does almost everything the S50 can do? Well then, your search ends here.So to sum things up.PROS: It doesn't just vacuum, it does a GREAT job of it. It functions as it is supposed to, which is very well.It has an amazing app which unlocks a ton more features BUT can still be used to do excellent basic cleans by simply using the buttons on the unit itself. It has a mopping feature, though the smartest mopper as it can not differentiate between hard floor and carpet, it is nice to be able to create virtual lines with magnet strips or boxes to stop it from trying to mop your carpets. It can be set up to do scheduled cleans and you have options. What days of the week, (M-S, not specific dates of the week) you can set up what time on each day, and the suction power you want it to use.It is reliable. I had it get stuck three times since I first used it. Twice in the exact same spot under my dresser that has a decorative arch that comes down on the front. When the vacuum went under from the side, it go stuck under the arch. I fixed the issue by placing 3 stacks of furniture sliders under the dresser legs, which raised it just enough to provide clearance for the vac to get under from front or side and it hasn't got stuck again since. The other time it got stuck was when it climbed up the base of my pedestal fan. It has not gottem stuck on it since though. It even vacuums onto and ove the thin vinyl litter catch mats that I have placed in front of my litter boxes. Bathroom mats are a breeze as are door thresholds and pet furniture bases which are atleast a half an inch thick. The app is OUTSTANDING.CONS:No smart mapping with onscreen drawn no go lines in app, which is to be expected at this price point. Still though, it us a con that it is lacking that feature. No way for vacuum to differentiate between carpet and hard floor when mopping. For this price they absolutely SHOULD have included a roll or two of magnet strips since the robot vac can recognize them and avoid those area where they are used . Come on Roborock, for 305.00+, that was a cheap move on your part, not including a roll and it is for this reason and the reason after this one, that I am docking the vacuum 1 star.I do wish it had a second mini spin brush on the front so it could get the edges well, no matter which direction the vacuum is facing and again, for this price, it should have been included. Bare in mind, it does seem to go back on it's own to get the edges with the brush side against the edge but it wouldn't need to do that if they would have went ahead and had to mini brushes instead of the one.Overall the vacuum is an excellent choice because while there are other vacuums that are cheaper with more features, I just feel like this one will really last and for the features that are included, at this price point it is an excellent choice. On the other hand if you DO have the extra money, I would go with the S50 because it would be nice to create boundaries and send the vacuum to a specific area in app.

Roborock E35
