The Paper Bag Princess (Annikin Miniature Edition)

This is a classic that I remembered from my childhood. I got it for my fiancé’s 4 year old son to teach him about strong women and he loved it.

If you know someone that is having a girl, this is an absolute essential. Such a great storyline for any woman, regardless of age. This makes an excellent baby shower gift.

I got this for my baby shower by a family friend. It turned out to be my favorite book to read to my daughter. Since then I've gotten it for my sister's-in-law too who also have daughters. I love this book because the moral of the story is that "not all princesses need to be saved" (I wrote this on the inside cover of the book and mailed it to them for Christmas). So often in storybooks the female is depicted as a Dame who needs saving. In this book, the princess sets a different tone. The story starts out with a princess who is to marry a prince, but the Prince is stolen from the castle by a fire breathing dragon (who also burned down their castle and her clothes). She sets off to find the Prince wearing the only thing she could find, a paper bag. The clever princess finds the dragon and tricks him using her wit. She saves the Prince who is so full of himself that he tells her to come back when she is dressed like a princess. In the end the princess tells him that "he may look like a prince, but he acts like a bum". She then lives happily ever after without the vain and selfish Prince. In my opinion, this book teaches young boys to be compassionate and not arrogant or shallow. It teaches young girls that being strong and independent can make you happy. In a time when we need strong women as well as men more than ever. There are books like this that can help shape who they are apart from the cliché friendship and sharing books. This is ultimately about the battlefield of relationships and how they don't always work out. Even when you try your hardest. But it is when it doesnt work out that you need to understand the complexity of inner strength. Where inner peace and happiness draws from. If we can create a strong influence of self awareness and self assurance in our children early on through books. Imagine how our children will make an impact in our world. I would recommend this book to anyone with young children. Even boys.

Cute story. Just read it to granddaughter. (6) she enjoyed it. Not the classic fairytale ending

I guess I missed something when I ordered this book. I had read reviews of the story elsewhere. I should have read the reviews here. When I saw paperback I assumed it would be normal size...It is NOT. It's tiny. I have never seen a book this size! Very disappointed that it was not clearly marked as much smaller than usual.

Tiny book!

I grew up on Robert Munsch books and this is one of his best. Strong female empowerment theme with a funny, entertaining story. Great for any kid.

a marvelous book that shows us how unimportant looks are compared to a good character. And it's good for a good laugh!

Ordered this as my children loved it and wanted to introduce a new generation to it . Book is so small it fit in my palm… very disappointed
