Great product and worth the price
Hard to say just how pleasant this experience was compared to others. Picture below show my initial day one setup: one beta, two ghost catfish, one bearded pleco (who has taken up residence in the pink castle). The kit did not come with the plant, castle, or the gravel on the bottom (and could do without it, but I had enough to barely form a layer left over from a previous tank). The gravel does prevent seeing down into the sump though, so I have to trust the bobber for water level (more on that below). Also I have included a picture of the tank on today (day 4) with shoots already coming up and you can see the water is still clear. I might have been a little zealous in my seed broadcasting as some of the smaller seeds made it into the fish tank and are now growing on the water surface and bottom.First, everything arrived well packed in the box with very little waste of space. One of the bags of media had split open and there was clay dust on a lot of things, but it washed off pretty easily. Rinsed everything and gave the clay pebbles a good agitated rinsing and then follow the setup instructions, really a simple process. Once set up, this is a very good looking tank, really the way you want an indoor aquaponics setup to look.It is a perfect flood and drain system, the bell siphon works great (I have not had an issue with it not cycling) and is fun to watch, though sometimes my beta gets surprised by it and drawn towards the overflow in the tank as it refills the sump. This is really a good system for showing people how the whole process is supposed to work.Pros:Easy setup - Takes all the guess workout of setting up your first aquaponics system.Aesthetically pleasing - It just looks nice sitting in the roomFast shipping - Even though not amazon prime, I ordered it on the 22nd (knowing it wouldn't arrive by Christmas) and got it on the 26th even though not estimated to arrive till 2nd-6th of January.Cons: (Really just minor annoyances)Bobber sticks - this is what lets you know the water level in the sump. It has a tendency to stick to the side of the tube it floats in. It works, just have to be aware of thatCant see in sump - Would be nice, especially when explaining the cycle of the system, if there was a small plexiglass window on the sump base that let you see in it.Access to tank - I haven't had to yet, but I will of course, and to access the tank you have to pull the grow bed completely off. It doesn't look like it will be difficult, just annoying to do.Looks like my pictures were removed from the review when I edited it, very strange. Easy to assemble, plants growing
Pro: Great looking, easy to assemble, plants are growing already. Betta is doing great, plan to add a female or move betta to another tank and replace with two small goldfish in a month or two, depending on how the water tests.Con: I wish the sump tank had easier access to pump. The pump failed a couple of days ago, required taking it apart and replacing with another pump from a local pet store (the new pump is a stronger pump). Auto bell siphon does not always cycle but plants seem to be doing great/
