UPDATE: 6 months laterNot much to say but I've still had no problems. No sign of wear on the probes and temperatures have been dead on. I don't know how many hours of use so far but let's say a lot. Plenty of ribs and briskets. Have also used it in the oven at 400F + and works like a champ. Never had a fear of the probes being damaged.I bought 2 chef alarms for smoking. One for the meat and one for monitoring temps at the grate. I had a maverick before despite all the reviews about the probes going out. First week of use and it was already reading incorrectly. I have a thermapen so I had to try the chef alarm. Let me tell you straight out the package the chef alarm is a superior product. It does not feel cheap unlike my maverick. The braided cable and accurate temps were a major selling point.Setting the alarms and timers is very easy and straight forward. The alarm is actually fairly loud. I can here it from my living room while the smoker is outside on the back porch. The display is very easy to read. I just open up the blinds, look through the window and go back to watching tv. That's nice when it's freezing outside.So far 4 cooks at over a total of 42 hours of use and both are working great. Very happy with my purchase. I like that it also records the min and max temps during the cook. Nice to know in case I fall asleep during a long overnight cook.

I would have originally given this 5 stars due to the functionality and ability to put the probe in the oven while the unit sits by the stove. It has a low and high alarm and gives a very nice beep when an alarm level is reached. The low/high alarms are easy to set, acknowledge (silence), or turn off. I have taken very good care of the unit and probe. The extremely disappointing thing is after 1 year of very moderate use (perhaps used it twenty times) it has become erratic. At times, it seems fine. But last time I did an expensive set of steaks it started going absolutely wacky - temps all over the place, and finally "HHH". I replaced the batteries and this did no good, and I had to go to a backup.Now, starting it up, it seems fine but I don't trust it any more as an in-place monitor. I suspect it is the probe. I will be contacting the company and will update this review with more information as a result.

This thermometer is a great addition to my house! I cook for family and friends almost every weekend and use this every time. If I need to use it for a timer or a temp probe it is great. The large display makes the temperatures easy to see with just a glance. It is also so simple to setup and use. I love the bright color(mien is yellow) and large buttons.The backlight on the display makes it great to use when I am smoking a large piece of meat and need to start in the early morning or cook over night. I can see what the temp is without searching for a flashlight or turning on the flood lights in my yard.The adjustable angle on the display makes it easy to see no matter what surface I attach it to or have it on.I recently loaned this to my friend that was having problems with another brand of probe thermometer. He loved it and ordered one of his own when I made him give this one back to me.Only downside to owning this is everyone will want to borrow it. I just send them the link to buy their own!

This is the first kitchen thermometer we have owned and absolutely love it. I didn't know how useful this product could be in getting that desired temperature.I was excited to see the cool green color we ordered.I loved the great instructions that explain each feature clearly but many of the features were easy enough to figure out myself. Again we are new at using a thermometer in the kitchen but with this easy to use devise we use it on everything. The best part of the Chef Alarm was the carrying case that comes with it. With all the different things in the kitchen all the different little parts of this device would have been lost.This is a very well made product that feels like it will last a long time, something that you don't have to keep away from the kids or have a fear of dropping and breaking it.Thermoworks has definitely made the best product out there we love it!

This item:Has large font temperature read outs,Assists in keeping food within a temperature range with high and low temp alarms,Lets you turn alarms off/on easily,Let's you set volume control on the alarms,Has fonts on the buttons large enough to see.Screen can be confusing- I lose track of which temp applies to current temp and which are low and high settings.And, as another reviewer already commented, there are too many buttons; buttons on the front, buttons on the back.I bought this to make yoghurt which requires that the works be kept within a temperature range. It serves the purpose.

Got this and tried it out last night on a roast and it worked perfect. Build quality is very high. I don't use alkaline batteries in seldom changed devices. They corrode very easy. The best ones are energizer ultimate lithium. I've read they will not corrode. That is what I installed. The back light is very bright and clear. The zippered case is nice to be included albeit a bit hard to get my zipper to run smoothly. This company has numerous products for sale from low cost to high cost. This is excellent value for the money in my opinion. It would be easy to buy a prime beef roast of some sort that costs more than this temp setup. And a over cooked and ruined prime rib or thanksgiving turkey isn't worth risking. I, done with time cooks whenever possible. I'll be buying more products From this company.
