About Shade Sail History of Shade Sail: Ancient Egyptians and later the Greeks and Romans used large pieces of fabric to provide shade. The Colosseum in Rome was shaded with large canvas Sails pulled into place by Roman sailors. Modern shade sails came into wider use with the invention of a far more durable and relatively inexpensive fabric called shade cloth. Useful versions of shade cloth appeared in the early 1990s especially in Australia and South Africa. For most of the 1990s there was some confusion about what these new devices should be called however they are now most commonly called shade sails throughout Australia, South Africa and the U.S.A. Current technology: Originally shade fabric, like all fabrics in the outdoors, suffered from UV degradation. UV inhibitors are now added during the manufacture of shade cloth and good shade cloth now generally comes with a multi-year UV degradation warranties. Shade cloth is a knitted fabric and this is an important factor in using it to design and manufacture shade sails.Successful shade sail design uses the inherent Stretch of the knitted fabric to create three-dimensional shapes. Fabrics other than shade cloth are used to make shade sails such as PVC, a more expensive alternative, or canvas variations. The low cost of shade cloth and its ability to breathe makes it a prime choice for cool shade

Great option for shade
I was looking for something to shade part of my pool. I was initially looking at an expensive umbrella that you could position over a pool when I found this. I was able to attached with some rope and create a cheap an easy shade spot. It's been up for a few weeks and holding up well in the both the hot sun and a few windy days. We even had a hail storm that didn't hurt it.

Worth it!
We have enjoyed having these in our little yard. We have no shade throughout the summer, the sun beats on our AC unit causing it to work harder to cool the house. And the sun beats on the side of our house heating the place up. These sun shades add shade and some nice color to the back. We have had many compliments on them. And string lights definitely add to the night effect.I would like to say, get some twine to replace the included cord. The cord is plasticy, and shrinks and explands during the day and night. Also, I purchased an anchor kit specifically for these. The kit definitely comes in handy.

Just as good as the more expensive ones
These are a lifesaver in Florida!! We wouldn’t be able to use our patio otherwise. Keeps our flowers from burning, cools the air out there by @ 10 degrees. And gives the patio a bit of color. I have a blue and an orange. Great price!
