Melinda Barta Plus
I'm a longtime fan of M. Barta. Most of the projects in this book are hers, but Jean Campbell, Lisa Kan, Carole Ohl, Melanie Potter, Jean Power & Sherry Serafini each contributed a project, too.And they are lovely.....Seed beads are my very favorite types of beads, but I love all the various stitches equally. These are all peyote. She writes a good "Basics" section. This is an ambitious book for a beginner, but given time, patience and a desire to succeed, all will be doableI have been beading for about 8 years.Ms. Barta also includes a section on finishing touches, something I haven't seen in a book before. But, maybe I missed it in other books. Also there is a "Project Resources" section, something I always appreciate. The illustrations are clearly labeled, and the written directions seem straightforward to me. There is a detailed materials list at the start of each project. It's would be up to the individual to decide if he/she wanted it, but I like to see these projects rated. Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. That has not been done here. I think experienced beaders can figure out if a projects is going to take a lot of time versus not so much, but a beader with little experience just might find him/herself in over her head. But there's no doubt that these projects are simply gorgeous! I look forward to starting any number of them!

Very similar to Beadwork magazine
The author is also the editor of Beadwork magazine which has become in the last few years much more advanced. This book is the same. It is not for beginners. The illustrations have the same defects as in the magazine as they are not clear. Each pattern has many materials and some are going to be hard to find. There are 2 projects for flat peyote but after that the projects call for more advanced techniques including herringbone, RAW, square stitch, etc. There are 6 guest contributors but most of the patterns are from Barta. Definitely look before you buy this one.

Beautiful Projects!
I love to bead and peyote is my favorite beading stitch. This book contains 15 projects and I actually like most of them. The book contains 2 projects made with flat peyote stitch, 3 projects with circular peyote stitch, and 3 projects using tubular peyote. Then there are 5 projects called "peyote stitch extras" which incorporate other techniques like freeform and sculptural and other stitches like herringbone, right angle weave and netting. The final 2 projects are categorized as "finishing touches", teaching various types of fringe, picot edging, bezels and others. The photography is in full-color and is of great quailty. The diagrams are really clear and, at a glance, you can see how the pattern progresses. No matter how well-written beading instructions are, it is alwasys easy to get confused and lose track of where you are. That is why good diagrams are so important and this book has that. The author also included a resource section in back which is nice to have.Overall, this is a great book and I would recommend it to both beginners and advanced beaders.Be sure to check out the "Look Inside" feature above so you can see for yourself the quality of the diagrams and you will also be able to see what some of the projects look like.

Didn't very accurate charts.
The instructions seemed pretty descriptive at first but they really didn't explain all the steps in depth required to complete each project. You had to read the whole book just to do one project. The charts were really hard to distinguish what was suppose to be on the insides, outsides or looped around. It all looked flat. Instead of trying to give a three dimensional veiw, they just used two colors for beads and two colors for the threads.

When a wonderful local bead store moved and then closed entirely
When a wonderful local bead store moved and then closed entirely, I moved on from my love of peyote beading. Kumihimo revived the interest in beading and then Amazon let me know about this book. It has to be the best and most unusual book on Peyote beading in my rather extensive library. I just can't wait to try the next thing. My circular beaded bracelets have been getting lots of attention and directions are so good!

Good explanations and pictures.
Should have purchased the actual book instead of the Kindle version. As I'm working, it would be easier to follow an actual book.

Got what I ordered
I ordered this book for my mom for Christmas. The book arrived on time, in one piece and not bent, and was obviously a new book. All the patterns are there, and she loved looking through them.

I was disappointed by the purchase
It is hard to understand the instructions. I bought the book hoping to learn some designs, but if you are not a seasoned Peyote stitcher you will have no idea what the heck is going on. I was disappointed by the purchase.

Peyote Stitch
I LOVE this book. Totally captivated from start to finish, got lost in the patterns and colours. Quite amazing how simple some of them are but the finished article looks so amazing (like the one on the front cover). This book will stay on my bookshelf forever
