driver disc doesn't work scratched and gouged

have had this adapter for approx 2 yrs now... it has one bad habit of dropping signal periodically.. i thought i had traced it down the the base or chord which I removed and used just the adapter... this worked great for about 6 months... however now it has started the same thing all over again... i have switched usb ports and even switched computers.. so i know its not anything other than some little something in the adapter itself... i must say.. when it works.. it works great.. no complaints... i seem to have just gotten a fluke in this case... would i buy another ? most likely i would... for the time being this is just a nuisence.. but when it becomes a problem.. yes i will replace it
