Might be that nothing in my house contains cobalt, but I’m skeptical about that. Nothing I tested showed any positive results, and it’s impossible to know what that means (no cobalt in the items in my house vs. these not working at all). For the price paid, I don’t like that degree of uncertainty ... this feels like it was a major waste of money.

I tested a number of things that I suspected had cobalt in them, but none turned pink or changed color at all, even a high speed drill bit that was labelled as a cobalt bit. Maybe the percentage is low enough to not be an issue, but it's not reassuring. I wish there was a check to make sure that the kit is really working.

I was diagnosed with a skin allergy to cobalt, and this simple test has been great for finding cobalt in anything. You snap it, and rub it on a suspicious item. If there is cobalt detected, it turns pink. Easy to use and carry with you. I will buy more when I run out!

I recently found out I have acquired an allergy to cobalt. I bought this product to test my jewelry to make sure it wasnt the reason for my allergic contact dermatitis. All my jewelry tested negative which I assume is true, but sadly I have not been able to pinpoint anything that tests positive. I was happy with the results, but wish the cause of this allergy was easier to track down. I felt getting 10 tests for the price was a very good deal. I only did not give 5 stars because I did not find anything that tests positive for cobalt, I cannot say how well it works. I was satisfied with my purchase and will purchase again if needed.

only thing it worked on was a real nickle

After being diagnosed with a cobalt allergy via a dermatological patch test, I ordered this kit (via another website) to determine whether any of the items I come into contact with on a daily basis contain cobalt. I tested many items, including doorknobs, appliance handles, costume jewelry, tools, keys, flatware, blue/green glazed china, cellphones, laptops, etc. No cobalt was ever detected. While I can't definitively say that it doesn't work, I'm not sure that it does, at least at the sensitivity level that appears to trigger my allergic skin reactions.

I tested several metal household items. The only thing that I found that tested positive so far were my go to craftsman screwdriver set that I’ve had for over 30 years and some craftsman socket extensions. Other cheaper screwdrivers tested negative along with some drill bits that I thought to have contained cobalt. This discovery is good to know. My conclusion so far is that cobalt is not as common as I thought it would be in my house. It took me using about 12 of the test tubes before I found a positive match on the screw drivers. You have to rub the test fairly hard making sure the liquid in the tube contacts the metal for at least 30 seconds. I think the reason is it takes that amount of time for all of the solution to make it to the tip of the applicator. I did squeeze a drop of the test solution out of the applicator and put it directly on the metal screwdriver, which turned color (pinkish orange) pretty quickly. Lastly, I found they if you use the test on one piece of metal, wait 30-60 seconds with a negative result there is enough test solution on the applicator tip to test about 2 more items before it becomes too dried out to work.
