The Great War (History Edition) DIGI [History

More than just a metal band
"The History Edition" is by far the best version of this finely crafted album, telling some of the more well documented stories of WWI, such as The Red Baron, Lawrence of Arabia and Sergeant York, but also some less well known episodes such as the defence of Osowiec Fortress: a metal-reggae fusion guaranteed to make you want to dance. Throughout the album, the poignant narration drives home the unparalled human tragedy of the conflict. The final two tracks of the album are masterful: "The End of the War to End All Wars" begins with grandiose power chords punctuated by pounding percussion give me goosebumps every time, and as this track fades away to the sound of distant explosions, a choral rendition of the war poem, "In Flanders Fields" by Canadian physician Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae, swells emotionally from your sound system. Those who are already familiar with the surprising and heart rending denouement of the final episode of "Blackadder goes forth" will have an idea what to expect.

Awesome!
Sabaton's my favourite band and in my eyes they can do no wrong, so of course I love this album! I admit I'm having second thoughts about having bought this special edition tho; the historical info before each song is great and so is the booklet, but I do kind of wish I wasn't missing out on the awesome cover art that the "normal" version has.

Another great Album
Sabaton are again producing quality music, with a historical theme. Battle Metal, story telling at its finest. They tell the history of warfare and do not glamourise it. The songs, interspersed with a narration, that only enhances the album. This is right up there with The Art of War album.

Brilliant CD - thanks.
As a new convert to Sabaton and [symphonic] heavy metal, I don't have much with which to compare this CD. But I love my history (I edit a history magazine in London), and what I can say is that I have enjoyed the music enormously and admire the extent to which Sabaton have chosen to research and present the history behind their songs. The band are a very clever, musically talented and savvy bunch of guys. More please....

I play the great score, There will be no encore.
A great Sabaton album, the introduction to the song topic is a good touch some are really detailed and others lacking in any details, but the Sabaton History YouTube channel is the best biproduct of this album.

Amazing!
What a fantastic and talented band - what's not to like? Powerful well written songs about events and conflicts in the first world war - lest we forget.
