This is an amazing review of SOLHOT a (non)program after school space for black girls where they are allowed to express themselves in ways that fit their own lives and share their own forms of knowing and being in the world. I assign it to my Women Studies classes because of its emphasis on girlhood and its use of a hip hop feminist pedagogy, which is every bit as amazing as it sounds. While based in very deep ideas, the text itself is accessible and always really impacts my students. I would highly recommend it.
