I had been searching for a wide and long slot toaster for some time, as this as always been my toaster of choice. It is quite easy to pick up a square 4 slice toaster but I think their size encroaches too much into your workspace. Also, as I find that toasters have a short lifespan, as at some stage a thin slice of toast can get caught in the mechanism and once it or some item you use to retrieve it, touches the element, thats the toaster banjaxed! Some big name brand toasters cost over a hundred pounds and they can go exactly the same way. I have had this excellent toaster 2 months now, (the right time to give a review I think) and it has performed well. The slots are extra wide,, so can take the thick bread I like. Some buyers have commented that it tends to toast only the middle of the bread. This is quite true, due to the size of the elements but I have always done my toast in two stages, (due to the different types of bread I use), turning it once it has popped up the first time. This then gives an even browning. If I had to be picky, I would have liked a toasting rack to sit on the top for croissants but that would probably have made it more expensive. It is actually a very good price. I would recommend it highly.

Good toaster, apparently designed for short bread Overall, this is a really good toaster. It looks nice, feels well made and having four slots is great when you're making breakfast for more than one person — or when you're making four slices for yourself because nobody is judging here. My only complaint is that the slots aren't quite tall enough for a standard slice of bread. This leaves the top sticking out looking pale and neglected while the rest happily toasts away. You therefore have two choices: accept partially toasted bread, or turn the slice around halfway through. Unfortunately, this requires a level of timing and vigilance I don't generally possess before coffee, so I inevitably end up with one beautifully toasted half and one section that looks like it's been recovered from a house fire. A slightly deeper slot would make this pretty much perfect. Otherwise, a very good toaster — just don't take your eyes off it once you start rotating the bread.

It's a basic toaster, but works absolutely fine for our needs and very good value for money. If you want a toaster that's not all bells and whistles, this is ideal.

Although the product was purchased approximately three months ago, it remained unused and in was in original packaging until today. Upon first use, I was extremely concerned by its performance and safety. Even on the lowest setting of zero, the toaster burnt the bread excessively. More worryingly, the plastic body of the appliance became dangerously hot during operation. When I touched it, I sustained a minor burn to my hand. This is wholly unacceptable and, in my view, goes against the basic safety expectations and material standards that should apply to a household appliance of this kind. In over 40 years of using kitchen appliances, I have never encountered a toaster that becomes too hot to touch. This raises serious concerns about the design, materials used, and overall safety of this product. I contacted Quest for product support and was told to get in touch with Amazon customer service directly. I am now to spend my valuable time try to find a way to get in touch with Amazon customer services for replacement or refund. I will update this review after I manage to engage Amazon customer services.

This toaster worked well... for 1 year, before it suddenly shorted out. There was a small "pop", and two of the heaters on one side, and one heater on the other side suddenly stopped working. The single remaining glowed extra bright. Before that, the toaster was fine - faster than our previous Severin toaster, good sized slots for our home-made bread. Too bad that it didn't last.

I wasn't sure whether this toaster would be particularly good quality as it was such a reasonable price, but I'm happy to say it appears to work brilliantly, is simple to operate, and looks very smart on my worktop. The bread toasts very quickly and you have a choice of how dark you wanted it to be toasted. My only criticism, for which I've knocked off one star, is that it isn't quite tall enough to take two standard slices of bread side by side in the same section; the tops of the slices stick out of the toaster by about half an inch. This is cured by putting the bread in on its side so that it toasts fully, but there is only room to put one slice in each of the two sections, so if you want to toast four slices, it has to be used twice. But it does the job very quickly, so this isn't really a problem. Otherwise, an excellent unit.
