Great addition to the intermediate guitar repertoire.
Great addition to the intermediate guitar repertoire. As I play these pieces, I imagine that I've stumbled into an undiscovered vault of Vivaldi's compositions for guitar. As an intermediate player, I find these arrangements within my capability. They strike me as arranged and fingered well, as would be expected from Dr. Yates. Also, these pieces are stunningly beautiful, as would be expected from this great composer. Although I'm not qualified to make the following judgement, I'll say that it seems to me that advanced players would also enjoy these arrangements, and would want to include a favorite sonata (or two) in their repertoire.

Great addition to the repertoire
I have played every Sonata in this book. Fabulous addition to guitar repertoire. Very idiomatic and high quality arrangements. The forward is excellent as well. Great alternative to the Bach cello suite arrangements by Yates which are also a 'must buy'.

Really Great Arrangements of Vivaldi for Guitar
What a great joy for any guitarist and lover of Vivaldi's music to play through these beautiful cello sonatasskillfully arranged for guitar by the renowned author and performer Stanley Yates. Here he has taken thesolo cello part and woven it together with the basso continuo line in arrangements of only moderatedifficulty which, fit on the guitar almost as if they were written for it.These pieces will help fill the gap in the guitar repertoire for music of the middle and late Italian baroqueplus these sonatas are direct and lovely, full of Vivaldi's Venetian lyricism.Kudos to Mr. Yate's, who is well known for his excellent and original edition of the Bach UnaccompaniedCello Suites transcribed for guitar, for this fine addition to the baroque repertoire of the guitar.

Simply horrible arrangements
These arrangements are terrible. Pathetic. Just as bad as the joke arrangements of the Bach cello suites which are beyond horrible. What a joke.

and all lie comfortably under the fingers
This is a superb edition of some very attractive music. The transcriptions are completely fluent and idiomatic, very stylish, and all lie comfortably under the fingers. The detailed Introduction provides lots of valuable background information on the music (particularly on issues of articulation and ornamentation). Mr Yates' wonderful edition of the Bach cello suites was a revelation to me when I first came across it ten years ago, and I still play through it regularly and with great enjoyment. This edition of the Vivaldi sonatas is an ideal companion volume to it.
