Get A Different Book
This book is awful. It’s riddled with errors which makes it extremely difficult to read. The book references the appendix several times but there’s no appendix. My English is not great, but Sridhar doesn’t even know English. There are errors in the code and incorrect claims throughout the book. The professor required this for his class, so I had to buy it, but I would not recommend it to anyone. The book is overall useless.

Hands-On!
The book provides a hands-on approach towards implementation of custom data structures in c++. It has a lot of code snippets for class definitions, which is different than the usual c++ reference books out there.Being able to see templated class definitions of sophisticated data structures like RB Tree really helps in fast self implementations.

There is a better book out there.
Not a good book for someone new to C++ and if you are in Sridhar Radhakrishnan's class you have not had prior class experience with the language. Key concepts are noted to be discussed in an appendix, which is great. The thing is, there is no appendix. There are many other typos as well that can throw you off. My suggestion is that if you are new to the language find a C++ book that can explain the features or use online resources prior to starting the class.

If you would like to buy
if you are in Sridhar's class. This is not a book for beginner. also there almost no relation between this book and Sridhar's project; If you would like to buy, i would recommend C++ Prime for beginner.

Don’t. Unless it’s required.
Book doesn’t make sense unless you’re taking the course. It’s riddled with obvious typos (section headers and the text itself like a sentence starts with “333did” which you can only assume is lazy writing or lazy editing.) There are resources online that have better teaching tools for c++

It might feel like the book isn't great at the beginning
It might feel like the book isn't great at the beginning, but once you figure out the way it's structured its very handy and very useful.,
