Firefly: The Official Companion: Volume One

The Firefly: The Official Companion: Volume One was a wonderful purchase for me. It is 176 pages of detailed information on heavy glossy color pages. The photos, sketches and diagrams in the book are wonderful. It is a full size paperback book about 8 1/2" x 11". The companion book is a very nice quality. And, it is heavy.It contains the scripts of several episodes which include Serenity, The Train Job, Bushwhacked, Shindig, Safe, and Our Mrs. Reynolds.There are a lot of commentary by the cast and crew. There are profiles of the actors and characters which detail a lot of information. There are a lot of drawings and pictures of props and costumes. There are also a lot of scene info and photos. There is also a lot of information of the ship and the crew's gear especially Mal's gun and coat and Zoe's weapon and her vest.Joss Whedon did a great job with the show. And, so did his team. Fox screwed up, and they should have let Whedon do what he knew how to do and to allow the show to stay on a decent night than to mess with things and mess with the episode order.This is definitely a must book for the Firefly fan and any Browncoat for sure.I recommend this book because it is so fully detail with information and color photos, and you get a lot of behind the scenes knowledge about the show and what the actors, writers and directors thought.This companion book tells so much that you are not able to find and gather in one place and be able to have available in front of you in your hands.

Dr. Casteel's review describes the book and its content really well. His review is much more comprehensive than this one; I am just a 60-year-old fan who wasn't aware of these adjuncts to television shows or movies, so my review is more of a "gee wiz, I didn't know they had THIS!"We purchased the book for my daughter's boyfriend, who is very much involved with scifi reenactments and costuming. I looked through the book prior to wrapping it and was completely blown away by its content. I didn't know it would come with complete scripts for each episode, or close-up photos of various props and sets, which were facinating. The explanations of the development and construction of certain props and costumes (like Kayli's dress for the cotillion) made the use of them in the episodes more meaningful to me.However, what completely impressed and sold me on the book was that the Chinese they used interchangeably with English during the series was translated into English in the script - which it is NOT in the series - making my understanding of the conversations into which it was interjected so much better.If you are a lover of Firefly, which I am, this is the book for you. You will want to get its companion book 2, because this book only takes you halfway through the series. I am going to get this book and book 2 for myself, then watch the episodes on my DVDs while following along in the books. To those more familiar with these kinds of collectibles, this may seem kind of a "duh", but to me, who is completely of out of touch with collectible things from movies and series I loved, this is perfect.As I wrote previously, if you love the series Firefly, I highly recommend this book and its companion to sit along side your Firefly DVDs.

Firefly the official companion volume 1 is a great companion for the show firefly is my favorite tv show ever and my favorite science fiction universe ever and this book is awesome every page is packed with beautiful pictures design drawings info on each character and so much more plus it includes the scripts for the first half of the show there are also some beautiful stills of the castThis book is a must have for any browncoat

Although not without a certain amount of nostalgic longing. There are a lot of little tidbits scattered throughout the book, all of which contribute toward a sense of how special this show was for both fans and crew alike. Some examples that come to mind are the big red recall button from "Out of Gas" being presented to Joss Whedon by Alan Tudyk to call the cast back together if the show was ever revived or the cut lines from "Our Mrs. Reynolds" at the end where Saffron implicates the Elder on the planet in setting up Serenity. I'm looking forward to getting the second volume soon!

Since we can no longer have Firefly, the series, except what we were able to get on DVD, this is a "fix" for a longtime fan of this wonderful story. I would have like to have had even more comments from the cast, maybe even a full-fledged interview with each of them, as they did with the creator of the show, Joss Whedon. I look forward to the next volume and still am ever hopeful that at some point in the near future, one of the networks will realize what a great series this was and still could be. My family misses this show to this day. What terrific casting and storytelling.

Volume One of the Firefly Companion. Covers the first half of the series. (Ooops--I put "covers first half" on Volume 2's review; should have been covers SECOND half of the series!) Excellent fan information. Loved the Chinese translations, production notes, etc. Wonderful photos. Thank you!

Both this and the second volume are very well written and have the shooting scripts for all of the episodes and production art and costume and set designs and what almost made it to the screen instead of all of the things that make Firefly so amazing

I'd been holding off on picking this book up, but now that I own it, I'm wondering what I was waiting for. The commentary by the actors, as well as the side notes is worth the price alone, the scripts then add to the whole thing. If you enjoy the series, this book is a must own.

I love this series, and it was sadly cut short by some over paid *+^*. Watch the 13 episodes before watching the movie. It works better in that order. The movie seems to be a wrap up of the series, answering all the questions that have arisen through the series.

My girlfriend and I have been Firefly fans for a while. I ordered this and vol. 2 for her birthday knowing full well what these books have and what they do not. She absolutely loves them. She is happy = I am happy. Therefore, good books with nice pictures and a bit of new things to read about.

The book arrived promptly, it was exactly as described and was excellent value for money.

If you love firefly you will love this.I am obsessed, even 10 years since it aired on tv I love it. I regularly stick the boxset on whilst sewing. I am so sad it was only 1 season and a movie, but what a season. Firefly is something you either love or hate and those who love can not be without.I decided to buy this and volume 2 because I had recently watched again and wanted to make Zoe's vest for a costume party.This volume is excellent. It provides insight to the making and production of the series as well as every script written down. It is more than I expected!thank you Joss for the wonderful "verse" you gave us.

I am a big fan of Firefly and could hardly pass up the opportunity to learn more about the series and episodes. With the companion volume you get to read the scripts and see read what inspired them, see conceptual artwork for everything from costumes to weapons to ships, get close-ups' of the weapons, get cast reminisces.....basically everything you could want. It is awesome.
