With the adhesive stick to the out side of an otter box defender series?

I’m not familiar with the Otter Box, but if you apply the Mount Metal Plate to a smooth surface, whether it’s plastic, metal or glass, it’s going to stick, even in a hot car.

Will these work with any magnets? Not using it for a phone. Would like to make a surface magnetic so i can attach a device with a magnet to it.

I've used these plates for several different projects but I've always used "rare earth" (neodymium) magnets. For my purposes these magnets have sufficient "pull" . I typically use epoxy to adhere the metal plate where I want it. The adhesive will fail if it gets too warm, like in the sun on the dashboard of a car.

After you put the metal piece on your phone will it work with a case over it?

If the case material is thin, it may. Worked with mine. If not, stick the plate on the case.
