Decent songbook, with the exception of a huge error
This is a decent songbook with some great Guthrie titles. It has a handsome cover and includes a biography and some other extras, at a very reasonalbe price. It includes keys above the music, not full chord charts but as long as you know the chord you're good. However, BUYER BE WARNED - "The Dying Miner" is listed as one of the titles in this book - It is also listed in the table of contents of the book itself, with a page number that it is supposed to be on. IT DOES NOT APPEAR IN THE BOOK AT ALL!!! I couldn't believe it... not only did the writers/producer miss such a huge mistake, but obviously so did Hal Leonard, the distributor. Some of the other titles in the table of contents have incorrect page numbers as well. Rarely do you see such a big mistake in a Hal Leonard distributed book. What really irked me was I purchased this book mainly based on the fact that Dying Miner was one of the songs that was supposed to be in it; so I was quite upset when I received it - you can imagine my frustration when I went through the whole book over and over again in disbelief and disappointment.[...]So, with the exception of that pretty huge error, the book is great. As long as the absence of Dying Miner doesn't bother you (and you can go to the above link to get it), I reccommend this title.

An American classic
Excellent anthology of grassroots folk music

Good book. Would be nice if the guitar arrangements were tabbed.
In case you are wondering, this book does not have guitar tab arrangements. Still worth buying as I've had little success finding any kind of arrangements for Woody's lesser known songs. Now that I know the chords at least I can slow down the track and figure out the finger picking.

wish it were longer..
Easy to read, with melody line and chords and words. For singing, guitar players, or any piano student that can play a fake book. Very classic songs. Great gift for a musician, even a beginner.

Words, chords, music
Nice song book with all the Woody Guthrie songs that I am interested in. My copy did have "Dying Miner" on page 24, so I don't know what happened with the copy received by an earlier reviewer. Each song includes not only the words and chords, but also a lead sheet of the melody. Very useful to us folkies!

Good songbook, nicely produced and delivered quickly.
I really wanted to buy the Woody Guthrie Folksongs book that was published years ago, but it is no longer in print, so I bought this just to see what it was like. I think it is nicely done, although I would have liked it to be far more comprehensive.

Excellent
A brief account of Woody's life is included as are the words and tunes of many of his songs including most of the well-known ones.

Ok, but not without fault!
This book was top of my list for learning songs for the guitar. Sadly, it has some faults.I should be clear, the first fault ( no strumming patterns) is a common fault in many books of this type. However, the first song I have tried to play is this land is your land. the given chords are wrong!. I looked at footage online of Woody playing this song, and the chords used are c-f-c-g7, not g-c-g-d7.I really love Woody guthrie's work so found this book a little dissapointing!
