Raw + Material = Art: Found, Scavenged and Upcycled

I've just finished reading through my copy of this wonderful book from front to back and I am sitting here absolutely stunned at the visual wonders I've just been exposed to. The presentation of each artist has just the right mix of text and photos, and the world-wide scope of the coverage is amazing. As soon as I finish writing this review I plan to email a handful of my artist friends to turn them on to this find. Kudos to Tristan Manco and the editorial staff at Thames & Hudson for hitting the bullseye and publishing this jewel!!

Further evidence that the line between Art and Craft is vanishing and that the trend toward recycling/re-purposing material is a big part of that development. Inspirational art-making. Great material for student projects.

My grandmother originally took this out of our local library and was so busy she couldn't look at it herself, i of course flipped through it to find magnificent pieces of work the were truly inspiring. She unfortunately had to return to the library before viewing it so i bought it for her as a holiday gift. Needless to say she was thrilled.

Good quality at reasonable price! Showed examples of many artworks that are transformed from everyday materials. A good buy for art lovers.

Wow-exciting art and so refreshing to see art that is not either ridiculous (Emperor's new clothes type) or stodgy old.When I see art that makes me want to get up and make something I know it is good.I will be buying this (got it at the library to read) and sending it to young artists in my family.

Ein fantastisches, inspirierendes Buch mit großen Abbildungen der Arbeiten internationaler Künstler/innen, die mit gebrauchtem, gefundenem und weggeworfenen Material arbeiten. Die Arbeiten sind sehr schön fotografiert und die Texte interessant. Es werden Künstler/innen präsentiert, die man sonst nicht unbedingt kennt. Man fühlt sich inspiriert, wertlose Dinge mit anderen Augen zu betrachten und kreativ zu werden.

I first saw Raw+Material=Art in the bookshop at Manchester City Art Gallery.I loved the clear, lively illustrations, and well informed comment.I purchased it from Amazon at a good price, and have since bought it for relatives in Finland and Australia.I would recommend it to every art student and to those who think they have no interest in art!

I have used this lovely book with both Fine Art and Photography classes. It is full of great work and ideas.
