An easy read and full of information

Great book. As a beginner, I was looking for a reference guide to get me started. This book has all the information needed for starting, growing, maintaining, repotting, training, and more. This is a timeless resource book.

Barton offers a unique system to chart the seasonal care of each tree. The case history chapter provides a realistic expectation of developing a pre Bonsai to a mature tree. Barton is meticulous in explaining the many styles and techniques in finding the Bonsai within the tree.

This book contains so much valuable information and many pictures to help the reader understand. The author dedicated himself to do research, write notes, take pictures, and make drawings for 20 years or so to supply bonsai students with usable information and practical knowledge. What a great achievement!

This book is a good guide for buying and taking care of well established plants. It has virtually zero information on starting bonsai's from seed. Helpful, but not what I needed.

This single book had everything I needed to help find and maintain my first tree... and then my second and third :) The thing is, there are SO many books and resources on the web that a person just doesn't know where to start? I got lucky when an aquaintence who has been caring for bonsai for ten years suggested this title. The fact that it is a rather old book turned out to be a good thing! It cuts right to the chase with tons of information, side stepping most of the poetic writing I was finding when browsing the bookstore shelves. If you want just the facts, and want them all in one place, this might be the book your looking for? I have half a dozen, and this is the one I use the most. I am new to bonsai and like this book immensely.

Lots of pictures, like a how to book should be

Excellent Bonsai book . Everything is laid out in an easy to read format with plenty of photos.This is the only book I have seen with a very good section on pruning and answered questions I had wanted to ask.I would definitely recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn and begin the art of Bonsai

If you are planning to get into, or want to increase your bonsai knowledge, this is the book to get!

This book has all the introductory information that someone new to Bonsai will need. If you look around the net you will find the author, Dan Barton, is a legend of the art. This book is a great purchase.

Excellent book for beginners and experts alike. Very clear instructions on pruning, repotting, etc... Good index which I think is very important.

The detail in this book did not meet my expectations. The price of this book is excessive and does not provide the detail I expected.
