Knitted Fairies: To Cherish and Charm

Beautiful book
This is one of the nicest knitting books I have. It's a hard cover, without the paper cover that to me is always annoying on a craft or cooking book. The pages are a super nice, kind of mat finish that makes it really easy to see all the detail of the fairies. The fairies themselves are just gorgeous. There are several photos of each of the 10 fairies in different stages of completion, so you can see how things should be looking as you go along. There is a lot of detail to each fairy and the photos kind of show you each part. I would almost call this an art book and even the partial photos of the fairies and their clothes are really well done and are very pretty. There are little illustrations on the corners of the pages and each fairy comes with a short story about who they are and where you might find them. I won't list them all because they are already listed in the description of the book, but I will say that Cobweb the Dark Fairy is one of my favorites. It's done in blacks and purples and has kind of an elegant and spooky look. All of the fairies have kind of a modern and sophisticated look to them. These don't really seem like toys for kids, but more like decorations for your house. The book does not call for specific yarns, only DK weight and suggested colors. At the beginning of the book, the author thanks a yarn shop and their huge supply of Cleckheaton Country 8-ply yarn, so I would imagine that's what she used. I haven't heard of that yarn before, but I googled it and it's readily available and in the $3.00 to $5.00/skein range. The clothes and accessories use some specialty yarns, such as eyelash, but that's easy to find. I was a little worried about doing the eyes because I'm not an artist at all, but there are little templates for different eyes and mouths, and you do them on felt and glue them to the fairies. The dolls in the book are so nicely made that I thought the eyes and mouths were painted directly on the knitting, but they aren't.I wouldn't hesitate to buy this book at all. Even if you never make the fairies, it's definitely a book that will be fun to look through often.

Delightful book
Enchanting little knit fairies are displayed on the pages. The description of how to knit and assemble the fairies appears fairly straightforward after a cursory look at directions. There are many details in constructing one of these charming creations. Knowledge of UK knitting is a plus, as the yarn weights reflect the UK measure. For an experienced knitter, making these for children could be quite rewarding...or so it seems. They're adorable.

Rewarding and Fun!
Once I started knitting these fairy dolls everyone at work wanted one! They are easy to make but you must be neat and consistent with the tension as a pulled piece of wool can ruin the finished product. Being a fine artist I add my own touches and even made one into a mermaid! It took hours but I finally figured out how to make the eyes right. Acrylic paint did not work (it came off the felt) so I embroidered the eyes, sewed the eyes on, and used half of an eyelash from the store which glues nicely. They are truly fun to make - a beautiful book you will CHERISH for years to come.

Fun, Creative Knitting
This is the second of three knitting books I have by the same author. I am waiting for a bunch of yarn I ordered to arrive so I can delve into knitting these incredible fairies. I have knit 4 dolls using Fiona McDonald's "Babes in the Wool" for my grand daughters, and they are all getting fairies for Christmas. I absolutely love the way the books are written and have enjoyed working on the dolls. I am a knitter who uses patterns and I am familiar with both European and American abbreviations and terminology. However, these books are not geared for only advanced knitters. They are not difficult and the writer leads you through every aspect of creating your own twist on her fantastic masterpieces. Have fun!

Purchased as a gift
I can't attest to the content of this book as this was a gift, but it was highly desired for the collection. The book arrived very, very well packaged so there was no chance of it getting damaged or even dinged. This is a hardbook and was in excellent condition upon arrival. The order arrived in the time expected without any issues and was exactly what was ordered. The recipient was very pleased to get this.

Fairies book
First I received the wrong book. Someone sent me 2 coloring books. After straightening that out with someone online (very helpful and polite) I received the book as the person said I would in the time he said it would arrive. A few ladies on Knitting paradise are making them and they look so cute. I have yet to make any as im trying to finish an irish knit sweater.

Fairies
I bought the book for my sister becasue she I gotten me one for Christmas. She has made a doll we call the sister doll and I love it. I keep her with me all the time because my husband has cancer and she comforts me. She even has different outfits. I would recommend it for a gift and for yourself.

Beautiful creations
This collection of fairies is beautifully presented with some incredible items to create. Not for the beginner, but for a knitter with an eye for detail and the ability to finish to perfection standard. Lovely, inspiring creations for that special little girl in your life.

Lovely Fairies but Face is Tricky
This book details the various knitted fairies & their outfits nicely but when it comes to the face... the needle shaping of the facial features, adding the eyes, nose, mouth, ears... you’re kind of on your own. The eye template in the book looks nothing like the eyes of the fairies shown in the book. There are no diagrams showing placement of eyes/nose/ears/mouth. Accurately stitched facial features are crucial to making pretty fairies & in my opinion this book falls short of helping you achieve this.

Made me think of the 'flower fairy' books- with a Gothic twist!
ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS book; the fairies are very much based around the dolls in McDonald's 'Babes in the Wool' book, only with wings shaped using floristry wire, and little pointy elfin ears. As in the other book too, there are templates for their facial features, which can be copied in felt -the pupils of the eyes can be painted on in acrylic (or embroidered on if you're like me and don't have a steady hand.) There are boy and girl fairies, their hair and outfits inspired by nature - lily water; blossom tree; ice; rose; bramble. And perhaps most striking, the cobweb fairy in blacks and purples. Makes you want to get knitting!NB I've now made three of these fairies; really easy to knit, the face and hair take the time, but I have to say my results look nearly as good as those in book!

Lots of fun to knit
These gorgeous fairies are quite quick to knit. The designs given are cute and quirky but you'll soon find yourself customising them to use up your stash and, given that they do follow the same basic pattern, it's amazing how different they look with a change of clothing and colour scheme. Nice to have patterns for male as well as female fairies. They make great gifts, but don't let anyone flick through the book unless you are prepared for a long list of requests!

Enchanting
I saw this book reviewed in a knitting magazine and had to have it as I love fairies. I am captivated and delighted by it. The patterns are very well set out and easy to follow for someone who hasn't got a lot of experience. I've made one fairy using yarn from my stash and taking elements from one of the patterns. The book is beautifully illustrated and well worth having just to admire the photographs.

Awesome!
I gave this book 5 stars because it not only has fabulous easy to produce designs, but the author has included basic instructions to encourage you to use your own imagination. I have made 3 totally unique dolls already as gifts, mixing and matching elements from different fairies. Clear simple instructions. As a seasoned knitter i would say that someone fairly new to the skill could make these dolls. Wonderful book, love it!
