Does this thing work through doors/walls? Our cats wake us up every morning at 5am and I would love to just press a button from my bed to shush them

The situation you described--lying in bed while the cat wants you to wake up--is the primary reason we use this device. A quick press of the button and the cat skulks away. This is with the door closed.

What is the range or stregth of the sound emitted?

Range is about 30 feet outside. I can't hear it but the dog can, and she comes to me to make the noise stop pretty fast. I only use it for negative behaviors and she does not like it.
