These are gym-quality weights, very solid, and well made. The rubber coating provides extra protection from drops or even scrapes against walls or other equipment - better to have a scuff mark than a dent or scratch. Delivery was excellent and their service to work out delivery options was fast and responsive. The driver got the entire set into my garage (only my wife was home at the time of delivery) which was above and beyond as far as I'm concerned - that may not be the kind of service everyone gets depending on how they are shipped.I took the advice of another reviewer and wiped these down with some old wash rags to get rid of the oil coating on the exposed metal, and whatever else was on the rubber - 2 very black rags later the weights were clean and the rubber smell was greatly reduced. I left them in the garage for another 2 days to "gas off" a bit more and have only the faintest rubber smell left once bringing them inside. Yes the smell is strong at first, but follow these steps and it should not be an issue.I've ordered a few other items from Body Solid and everything has been excellent so far. It's not cheap, but they have the quality to back it up.

This set is exactly what I expected. These dumbbells are a quality product, I store them on the Body Solid 3 tier rack and they all fit on the rack. Here's what you need to know; They show up in a cheap crate that's just welded metal strips for a frame and cheap plywood. Inside are individually boxed dumbbells, so you'll end up with a lot of cardboard. The dumbbells smell like rubber but that goes away after awhile. As other reviewers have said, they are greasy. I took the time to wash each of them in the kitchen sink with dish detergent. I've had no issues with them leaving marks on anything. Each dumbbell has a made in China sticker on it, I removed those while I cleaned them. I broke down the crate by breaking the wood into smaller pieces. If you can't do this, lift these weights for awhile and you'll be able to. I then hacksawed the frame apart to fit in my garbage can. As you can see, there's some initial work but once that's done, this is a great set of dumbbells to have.

Just got my dumbbell set today. I ordered through amazon directly. I am very Impressed with the quality of this set, if fact it's nicer than the one at my local gym. I ordered December 26th 2011 and it arrived at my home January 4th 2012 which I thought was good considering the holiday season. Other reviewers have commented that there were extra handling charges to get the crate off of the truck, not for me, there were absolutely no shipping charges. Also others have complained about the smell of the rubber, well duh what do you expect these are brand new rubber coated dumbbells they are going to smell a little, but it's not a bad smell at all, in fact I kind of like it, smells like a REAL weight room. Wipe them down with some disinfecting wipes and the smell will diminish with time. I ordered the body solid weight rack seperate and the weights fit perfectly on the rack. Other reviewers have said that they had to overlap the weights on the bottom rack, not for me, the full set 5-50 lbs fits perfect! The best part about these is they will never become obsolete, never go out of style, and will last a lifetime.

Excellent dumbbell. Grips is perfect for my hands (glove size mens large for comparision.) My wife has no problems using them and her hands are smaller. The rubber is high quality, not greasy or overly slick. (Note: I really like rubber coated dumbbells, since you don't get paint or rust particles in your face/eyes when you accidently hit them together when doing declined/flat bench routines...) The only reason these did not get 5 stars is that they were each about a quarter pound light (weighed in at 7.75 lb). Not really noticeable, but I expected a bit better from the Body Solid brand (but I suspect these are all made by the same vendor and then branded). Also, the weight markings on these are very small and hard to read. (I have found that if you take a white paint marker, you can easily highlight the number. It makes it much easier to quickly ID your weights.) Overall, nice DBs.

Horrid value. I mistakenly bought 3lb, 8lb, and 12lb dumbells thinking they are pairs. Who buys 1 weight. They only shipped me 1 of each weight. At $16 for (1) 3lb weight that is absolute garbage value.

This is a very high quality set of dumbells; each much better built (not to mention way nicer looking) than the standard cast iron dumbell. They don't chip or make a loud noise when struck together. A couple very minor things to note is that they have a black greasy coating on the rubber that should be wipped off well before use (unless you don't mind black marks on anything they touch). Also, the do have a slight rubber smell - not overpowering, but noticeable when entering the room. After a few weeks it is still present. I've noticed the same smell in gyms and never heard anyone complain. All in all, I am very satisfied with this dumbell set.
