Astounding Range, Excellent Clarity
I bought this radio because I do a fair amount of 4WD off-roading and the radio comes highly recommended by HAM aficionados. It is AMAZING. From my home, for example, I can hit on the 70cm band a repeater 110 miles away, line of sight. No static at all, and everyone reports clear transmission. I’ve hit 135 miles from mountain tops, the thing just blows me away. I’m still looking for the limits.Yes, you need an FCC license to operate this – I found Gordon West’s book a helpful study for the Technician’s License. I also used the CDs he sells, they’re a little corny but it’s a good review source. Also, loads of places on the net to self-test. Do that, a lot, then sit for the exam.I'm a relatively new HAM (meaning, take all this stuff with a grain or two), but I took the plunge with this fellow and a Browning 2M/440 centerloaded antenna. I bought all this stuff from Amazon. Then I had to figure out how to mount all this in my 4WD 2013 Tundra in such a way I could tuck it away if need be. I was looking for a clean look and the detachable head on the FT-8800r looked like a good way to achieve that. What you may be wondering is, how do I install this thing once I buy it? If you're like me, you probably haven't installed anything like this in your vehicle since you were, like, 20 years old. There are lots of helpful guides on this but here's are the tips I can give you after my own experience:• You’re going to need to wire this thing to the battery in your vehicle, and you’ll probably want quick-connects between the unit and the vehicle as well. An “Elmer” recommended I use Anderson Powerpole Connectors. He was right, they’re amazing and easy to use. I smidge of an investment (you need a special crimping tool from them), but a good investment. Buy it.• You’re going to need to decide whether to separate the head from the body of the unit, or keep them together. I separated the head and tucked the radio behind a seat in the back of the truck.• You’re going to need to MOUNT the bloody thing somehow. After spending hours of research on this, I located a website called mountguys.com, who recommended RAM Mounts. This is a STUPENDOUS product. Start Googling, then use it. You can mount the head to the windshield, you can mount it to your cupholder, lots of options. Again, I got all this stuff from Amazon.• I had to drill out the wall of the back of the truck for the coaxial to the antenna (get the best coax for this, with only as much line as you need). It was a little concerning (my truck!!!) but that and some blobs of black silicone and she’s sealed up tight as a drum again. If you’ve got a truck you might look at Breedlove Stake Mounts. I did, and the one I got looks super clean and works like a charm. A bit tricky getting the coax to the mount yada yada yada, but hey – you came this far, it’s not rocket science for cry-yie.So that’s about it for install tips. Again, the internet is your friend. You just need to dive in, sum up some gumption, and get ‘er done!Last thing: programming is a headache on any HAM radio. RT Systems makes a great software program with a special USB cable for this radio. BUY this thing. It makes programming quite simple. For example, it will login to internet databases such as Repeater.com and download repeaters and their tone codes based on your parameters, say, everything within 100 miles of you. That way you can scan through this stuff and get a sense for which repeaters you can hit in your area, on your commute, etc.Hope this helps! 73!

GS-911 BMW Diagnostic Tool
I purchased a brand new 2012 BMW f650gs from my local dealer in Arizona. Upon receipt of the bike, I promptly went through the dealer set up checklist and found almost nothing was torqued to BMW spec, so I decided it might be best if I performed all my own service from now on. I purchased the GS-911 tool for my 600 mile/1000 kilometer checkup. It was easy to hook up and register my bike. In addition, I used the new Beta version SW which allowed me to set the bike to US standards and to also set up the next maintenance interval. The dealer had quoted me $175 labor to perform the 600 mile service + drain plug gasket + oil filter + oil + hazardous waste disposal + additional labor to remove the skid plate equaling just about $300.00. By buying this tool, I am now able to ensure the work is done to exact BMW specs and I will be able to drive my bike in confidence knowing everything will be torqued, filled, and set up exactly to factory specs.

These are EXCELLENT!
The tongs arrived yesterday afternoon and we had a fire in the backyard pit last night and used the tongs. The quality of the construction is absolutely first rate (and I'm critical as any gray-haired engineer)! The weight is nicely balanced at this length of tong (32.5 inches), and the grip geometry is not at all awkward like many tongs/grabbers/log turners out there. I'm going to buy another set to keep in the camper!

Very good quality with a "home-made" look rather than factory processed
Very good quality with a "home-made" look rather than factory processed. Unfortunately, I purchased these for the inside fireplace. These are more suitable for campfires/outdoors because they are too big.

Awesome Product!
Blows the doors off any other Tongs that I have used for my fireplace & wood stove! I occasionally would catch the sides of my wood stove insert with my old standard weak quality tongs which were shorter and crappy. These are heavy duty with a strong grip & long (32" is plenty long enough for Homewood stove & fireplace use or even outside firepits). They are heavy & made in the USA. Very Satisfied.

Love these
We bought two of these! After buying the first pair and liking them so much, we bought a second pair as a gift for our parents for Christmas. They are great to take camping, or use in your backyard. They turn logs with ease.
