Exactly what I wanted!
The media could not be loaded.  Gorgeous!Just wanted to add: since I have been reading it: it is written by a Catholic Msgr. So it is from the Church’s perspective. It is still an interesting read with gorgeous pictures!

Grandmother Loves It
I ordered this for my grandmother who specifically requested a book of missions that was informative and filled with photographs. I had gotten for her years ago a book from a mission and she wanted something new to replace that one. She was so surprised when this arrived and she loves it.

Amazing Guide to the California Missions
A balanced and thoughtful look at the history of the California missions, with special emphasis upon the architectural and social influences they have had over the centuries. Beautifully illustrated, the book is extremely well written and provides a nuanced and thoughtful view of the many gifts the missions have provided California, including social, educational, and spiritual enlightenment.

I loved the book so much
I loved the book so much, I ordered one for my brother and his family, with whom I visited the Mission. However, I had to order it twice as the first one never arrived (and still hasn't arrived). The book is beautiful and compared to all the California Mission books I compared, I found it most interesting, informative and with the best pictures.

Interesting, but narrow view of the California missions
I was hoping for a good historical overview of the missions because my boyfriend and I have a goal of visiting all the missions. This book does have some interesting stories, but all the information is focused on the Catholic influences, which is all shed in a positive light only, not much discussion given to the peoples who lived at the various missions. Catholic relics at the missions are highlighted, too. I was hoping for more, but this is written by a Catholic priest, which while interesting, seems a rather narrow view.
