Swiss Family Robinson (A Stepping Stone Book)

Seven-year-old daughter loved it!
My seven-year-old daughter loves to read and I was eager to introduce her to the classics in English literature. I knew the original versions might be too daunting for her due to the high level vocabulary and have been looking around for well-written adaptations that retain the essence of the original. The language in this adaptation is pitched just right, neither too easy nor too advanced for an independent young reader. The story has enough drama and action to keep a young reader engaged. There are many other classics in the Stepping Stones Classics chapter book series, and I highly recommend them for independent young readers who'd like to read the classics. There are also two DVDs which I think would be lovely complements to this book: Swiss Family Robinson (Vault Disney Collection) The Adventures of Swiss Family Robinson - The Complete Series

For younger readers
I enjoyed the book. I read it to see which grandkids might like it. It is for younger readers than I expected. I would say elementary children are the target audience. I thought it might be geared toward teens.

Perfectly fits my needs. I am reading classics to kids during an 11 week summer camp. These books are the perfect length and vocabulary to read in short segments during one week of camp.

I was looking for a shorter version of this great classic but his one fell since elements of good writing have been reduced to something more formulaic. It has been a good follow-up independent read for 2nd graders, however.

Third Grade Reading Level
There were so many editions of this book listed on Amazon I failed to understand it is a simplified Chapter Book. I think it would be appropriate for a 3rd grade reading level. I was hoping for a more sophisticated version for my 5th grader. Hits all the important parts, but very short, very simplified.

Great for Teens
I'm excited to use this with my students! Text level is at the correct level for my students and the pictures are exciting. This is not a graphic novel in the sense of comic book like.

Not the original story.
I wasn't aware that it wasn't the original story, but a child friendly adapted version. I was disappointed when it arrived, but it's my fault for not reading the description thoroughly.

duff
what an absolute waste, the original book was 45 chapters long, this excuse is 11 chapters long, needless to say a lot of the storey is missing. had intended it as a Christmas present for a grand child, only fit place for it is the bin.
