she would fall in love. So
*One of the most political thrillers that I have ever read in such a very long time by bestselling author Karen Robards leaving us with another excellent romantic suspense in book 1 with this fast-paced duet Both books are definetly must reads!.......When awakened in the middle of the night by her boss, attorney Jessica "Jess"Ford felt compelled to carry out his request. Being the new-kid-on-the-block, she would have to do many things asked of her if she ever wanted her career to take off someday. And this was defintely one of those times! Asked to go to a dingy bar was one thing but to find the First Lady of the United States sitting at a corner table while Jess tried to convince her to leave with her was something entirely different. Indifferent with Jess, Mrs. Annette Cooper made a desperate phone call to Jess's boss, John Davenport begging him to be the one to come for her. When he refused,The First Lady reluctantly stood up by following Jess out the door. Nervously looking over her shoulder, Annette confides in Jess that the Secret Service cannot be trusted so very quietly, they spot the car Jess arrived in and quickly get in but not before they are seen and a Secret Service agent jumps in the front seat. Frantically this is not what Annette expected and by accident dropped her cell phone under the front seat. In a wild search for it and Jess trying to help her find it, their car is suddenly going over the side into sheer oblivion. Head of security detail on The First Lady, special agent Mark Ryan arrived on the scene so perplexed of what just happened that he almost went right passed her. Lying in a small heap was a lady or girl, it was hard to say but her moaning and the look of fright on her face begging him not to leave her, said it all. Being now the only survivor,Marc wasn't about to leave her side no matter what. Upon awakening up in the middle of the night, Jess knew without a doubt that someone came into the darkened hospital room to try and kill her. Telling Mark this, he wasn't sure yet what was really going on and what to believe until he did further probing and discovered Jess was right on the money. Not knowing that Jess always had a secret crush on the handsome agent Ryan from a mere distance, it was no wonder while under his constant protection, she would fall in love. So was it a far cry to say when attempts were made on both their lives, that suave, sexy, debonaire Mark Ryan would fall in love too? With their futile narrow of escapes, running from glorified contract killers, old friends who are no longer trustworthy, all law enforcement agencies, there is one thing for certain that Mark and Jess know. It is going to take more than their love to get them through this, for they are not only fleeing from a government that's grown morosely corrupt but before they will ever breathe again, this will end in the most deadliest "pursuit"ever!.......Excellent thriller and Karen Robards at her finest!..........thank you♡♡

Suspense? Yes! Romance? No!...
I've come to the conclusion that Karen Robards would like to switch genres. If that's the case I wish she would just do it already! I'm tired of buying her books expecting the romance to play an equal part to the suspense, when, lately, it's just been an afterthought! She used to be able to combine the two beautifully but hasn't done it well since Night Whispers. (For you romance fans out there, I'd suggest going back and reading her old stuff, if you haven't already. You won't be disappointed.) I think part of the problem is she started writing books (like this one) that don't lend themselves well to believable romance. Pursuit is an apt title for this one because it was just that. Non-stop, beginning to end. The one small break they did have (towards the end) is where she decided to throw-in the one love scene. When that was over, so was the break. (I mean immediately!) These type of wall-to-wall action books are great for the suspense fans but not so much for the romance fans. That being said, I did give this book 3 1/2 stars. (Amazon really needs to start allowing the 1/2 star ratings!) As little a part as the romance played, she still managed to create some chemistry between our hero and heroine, and the one love scene was pretty hot! And as for the suspense part, I thought she did great with that. She certainly kept me turning pages! It was an amazingly fast, fun, and exciting read. I just had one big beef with the character of Jess that kept me from really liking her and that was her vacillating between trust and distrust of the hero. It was completely believable at first, but after the guy has saved her life about 4 or 5 times, not to mention the many scrapes and jams he rescued her from, her constant wavering seemed ridiculous! But still, all-in-all, an enjoyable read! I just think she needs to take the plunge on over to strait-up suspense, as Tami Hoag did before her. (And Sandra Brown needs to do, also.) If we're not plunking our money down for romance we won't be disappointed!
