One Nation: What We Can All Do to Save America's Future

One Nation by Dr. Ben Carson
(What we can all do to save America’s future) A short while ago I wrote a review of a great book entitled “Who Stole the American Dream” by Hedrick Smith. In it I stated that the book contained all the information elected officials needed to restore our nation to its former greatness. I stand by that report. This one by Dr. Carson is different. He doesn’t explore as the other did the varied issues. This one is more about calling us all together to join in the battle to restore our nation. I found it to be inspirational and worthy of reading by anyone interested in getting involved. The Preface is the speech he delivered during the 2013 National Prayer Breakfast. By dumb luck I happened to hear it at the time it was given. I was struck by the power of his words and the courage to say them. President Obama was sitting at the head table with the Doctor. Parts of the comments were a condemnation of the Affordable Care Act (Obama Care). It was obvious that the President did not enjoy the speech. Dr. Carson grew up in Detroit. He credits the determination of his mother in keeping him from a life of crime. She only had a third grade education. She made him and his brother read two books a week and report. The good Doctor didn’t realize that she couldn’t read. Nonetheless over time he realized how important reading was and became determined to aspire for a better life. He became an accomplished physician. This book urges all of us to reclaim our country with its former ideals before it is lost forever, doomed as so many others in history. He shows how. All that is needed is for Americans to care enough to band together in common cause. From my perspective, while I agree with him totally, I have little faith it will happen. Ben Carson is black. He is also Republican. There is a good possibility he might become the candidate for President. Do you remember the support Herman Cain received a few years ago? He was also black. Republicans are not racist as declared by the Democratic Party. They are opposed to most of our current President’s policies, nothing to do with race. It would be great to have a black man with Ben Carson’s credentials to be the candidate. I would be happy to cast my ballot for a man with the moral stature that he has. Read the book and see what you think.

A great read for anyone who wants to see our country return to the Constitution
I admit I am a big fan of Dr. Ben Carson and have read and liked several of his books. So I was predisposed to like this book, and I did. Although I agree with most of what he says, I like that he encourages readers to think for themselves. He wants people to form their own educated opinions, based on knowledge and wisdom. He is a big supporter of education and created and operates a nonprofit to encourage and help good students. putting his beliefs into action, unlike many who want other people to pay for programs they believe in.Each chapter of the book begins with a quote from Proverbs and ends with action steps for readers to educate themselves and engage in conversations about important issues.Dr. Carson encourages everyone to become involved in the political process to turn our country around. Too many politicians are more interested in their own re-election than in the good of the country, and too many people listen to what politicians say but don't really know what they do (or don't do). We the people have to take our country back and turn it around--back to the Constitution and the limited government the founders envisioned. To do this, we have to quit demonizing people with whom we disagree and recognize that good people can have different opinions. Respect and honest debate are more effective than name-calling. I highly recommend this book for anyone who cares about our country and wants to see it return to traditional values and the Constitution.

Current events and doable solutions
Material seeks to unite us, Citizens, toward Truth Justice Faith: To the purpose for which we are created and its effect on our Nation. Carson points to History, Science & Human hearts that affirm the success of E pluribus Unum. Carson reminds readers that our history records many weakness and failures. Reminding us that we all all fallen beings. Many mistakes made can and have been corrected which far out number the evil intentions of those who seek to control people for their own aggrandizement.Carson encourages us to look beyond moral failures of the past and look at the good "we the people have accomplished in seeking peace and justice for all."Carson points to the U.S. Constitution as an amazing document with Principles and Protections that helped us correct wrongs, even though long coming, while giving us all a voice and a vote for Liberty.Carson leaves us with a warning that our Founding Documents will only be effective under Leaders and Teachers who affirm its truth to the next generation; and a majority of citizens live under the common good, which is "do unto others as you would want done to you."

A book that should be read by every human being. Pass the book on to a friend!
Exceptional book. I have just finished Part 1 (halfway point) before delving into "Solutions", Part 2.Dr. Carson outlines how we as a people can take small steps to become interconnected and better people with Action Steps at the end of each chapter. 3 or 4 small steps that you can take (just one per week, try it) to get connected and start to resolve the plague we have for media on TV today. One of the key points he makes regard certain types of people who are quick to accost you for mentioning religion, sexual orientation or abortion without listening to the reasoning behind your words, rather than listen to your side of the story and share their information that puts them on "the other side of the coin".This man has been my inspiration for over 2 years now, and is the driving force to my ambitions.

Yes...we are one...
Dr. Carson's book provides not only a practical guide for further discussion of the topics he presents but it is a guide to show us how we can begin to reunite as one nation in spite of the divisions which now separate the people of America.
