Dictionary of Scholastic Philosophy

Overall this is a worthwhile book
Overall this is a solid book to add to the philosophy student's (or seminarian's) library. I also like the cover. Two things that could be improved upon though are 1) the font size needs to be increased, and 2) the quality of paper is not the best and needs to be improved. Also, I hope that they print the 2nd edition with the two improvements mentioned above.

the material that is actually in the 2012 version is very good, and would undoubtedly be of great use to ...
I own both the 2012 paperback version, and the 1966 2nd edition hardcover. The 1966 version is 339 pages. The 2012 version is, with less words per page, 138 pages. The 2012 version has less than half the content, both taking out entire entries and severely shortening the entries left in. To be sure, the material that is actually in the 2012 version is very good, and would undoubtedly be of great use to a beginner in Scholastic Philosophy. The more serious student of Scholastic Philosophy however I would advise to spend the extra money on the 1966 2nd edition. For example, "Be" in the 1966 version has two entries; the first entry has one part, the second entry has 25 parts."Be" in the 2012 version also has two entries; the first entry has one part, the second entry... has one part. This is not mere trimming the fat. The 2012 version removes very valuable information to no obvious benefit to the reader. My only guess as to why this happened is that the 2012 version is a reprint of the 1st edition, not the 2nd. Why the publishers would choose to reprint the less complete version can only be left to speculation.

Brilliant reference book for your studies
This book is a must-have for anyone studying philosophy or theology. Not only does it have very well written definitions, it is full of amazing charts and diagrams. It was recommended to me by a theologian-philosopher PhD from Oxford, and I have found the book brilliant.

A Useful Resource
I highly recommend this book. It is fascinating and useful not only for anyone interested in scholastic or Thomistic terminology, but also for those interested in how a major school of Western thought understands and integrates key philosophical terms and concepts. It could also serve as a book to meditate with. It is refreshing to see the rigor to which thought can be put, yet without draining the vibrant life that animates it. Go for it!

Great resource
Serves its purpose well. Very easy to navigate and thorough. If you don't buy this you'll have to buy something else, or spend a lot of time on google as you study Scholastic philosophy.

A valuable adjunct to the study of medieval metaphysics.
Bernard Wuellner's Dictionary of Scholastic Philosophy is a very helpful -- if not an indispensable, -- adjunct to the study of medieval metaphysics, as well as to other branches of medieval philosophy. Its companion volume, Summary of Scholastic Principles, is equally valuable.
