One of my favorite games
This is truly one of my favorite games. It serves small groups which can be convenient when you canโt get a lot of people. You can even do 2 players. Itโs a game where you have to give convincing lies to win and itโs so fun! Rounds go by pretty fast which I appreciate.

A game of bluffing and betrayal, fun for all
Intrigue in a Box: Coup isn't your average card game. It's a whirlwind of bluffing, deduction, and calculated risks, packed into a compact box and playable in just 15 minutes. This review delves into the heart of this Machiavellian masterpiece, highlighting its strengths and weaknesses. Pros: Fast-paced and Easy to Learn: The rules are simple to grasp, making it accessible to both casual and experienced gamers. Each turn revolves around claiming your character's ability or challenging another player's bluff. This keeps the pace brisk and the tension high. Masterful Bluffing: Lying is the core mechanic, demanding quick thinking and calculated deception. Successfully pulling off a well-timed bluff is incredibly satisfying, while getting caught adds a layer of delicious humiliation. Direct Interaction and Backstabbing: Players directly target each other, leading to tense confrontations and strategic plays. Don't expect alliances to last long in this cutthroat world! Portable and Replayable: The small size and quick playtime make it perfect for travel or filling short breaks. With only 15 cards, each game presents a unique set of challenges and unexpected situations. Cons: Player Elimination Can Feel Brutal: Losing all your influence (lives) can be frustrating, especially early on. It's important to accept the potential for sudden elimination as part of the game's tension. Limited Depth: While exciting, the simple mechanics and small card pool might not appeal to players seeking complex strategies. Groups with "Alpha Personalities" May Dominate: The reliance on bluffing can favor more assertive players who are comfortable with social deduction games. Overall: Coup is a fantastic choice for anyone seeking a quick, intense, and social gaming experience. It's the perfect blend of luck, strategy, and deception, ensuring no two games are alike. While its simplicity might not satisfy strategic power players, it's a must-try for anyone who enjoys bluffing, backstabbing, and a touch of controlled chaos. So grab your coins, choose your alias, and prepare to enter the world of Coup, where alliances are fleeting and betrayal is an art form.

Great, fast-paced game of trickery and deception that comes in a handy package!
Coup is a very fun game of trickery and deception that is relatively easy to pick up. I've had mine for years before doing this review. My friends and I have had many hours of fun yelling and pointing fingers at each other. It is a game that can either be really short or really long depending on the group you're playing with, but typically takes no longer than 30 minutes (usually shorter). The game comes with player cards, coins and cheat sheets containing character abilities for new players to refer to. The cards are relatively thick and have a good texture, whereas the coins are made of thick cardboard, which might feel a little cheap, even if they do serve their purpose well enough. The items come in this rather handy box made out of hard cardboard that protects the items well, but scratches rather easily. I like to bring this out to gatherings because you only need cards and coins, no board, no paper, nothing that requires a hard surface, so it's super easy to play anywhere. I found the game fun, even intensive at times, but not so suitable for younger children, and should probably only be introduced to young teens or older, because the gameplay leans heavily on players interacting with each other and using mind games and deception to trick others while using different abilities to gain certain advantages over others. Younger players mights struggle to grasp the more psychological aspects of the game. Highly recommend!

Coup d'etat
If you're looking for a fun 2-6p (need to accomodate more than that - get more copies of the game or just add marked regular playing cards to it in sets) party game look no further! This game is the perfect warmup/warm-down game for family gatherings or casual hangouts. It is extremely easy to pick up and yet holds a surprisingly large amount of strategy. It's easy to learn, hard to master. The box is tiny so it's portable and travels easily! The components of the game all fit into the box perfectly. Speaking of the components they are the cards, summary sheets, instructions booklet and tokens. The card art is perfect and suits the game - definitely admirable even after hours of play. The tokens could've been better but do their job and are sturdy. Summary: If you want to play a quick game that requires deduction and deception - this is your game. I can only say that playing with quiet/timid people will be slightly frustrating (if they don't talk much) but aside from that - it flows regardless.

It arrived promptly and is great quality. The games great, i love it more than I expected. It requires less setup than even games like chess. In fact it's similar to chess, although the bluffing part makes it a lot more fun, especially when a bad lie makes everyone piss themselves laughing. It's designed for more than two people and works best with 3+. Though I have had some 1v1 games and they are just as fun. The best thing though is games usually take only around 5-10 mins so if you're short on time or if someone can't stay for the whole game night you can obviously adjust to suit that. I usually have a few games of this before and after longer table top games. Honestly if you're looking for a good tabletop game Coup is vital to any collection.

I dont know how many times I read the description and the title to find out only when it arrived that it is the expansion game, not the original game

Recommendation: 5 stars Ease to Learn: 4 stars Good for Family: 5 stars Good for Adults: 5 stars Short time to play: 5 stars Value for money: 4.5 stars This game is best learned by someone who has played it. It takes about 3 rounds to understand it sufficiently with someone who has played it. The game is then easy to learn and interesting. We played about 3 rounds in 40 minutes, so each game doesn't take long--about 12-14 minutes. The idea is that each player gets 2 player cards. Each player card has a different character and there are are 3 of each character that does a specific function. You play your role as one of your characters or fib about having a character you don't have. For instance, you say, I am a Duke and will collect 3 money tokens (each turn you get tokens, the number you get is determined by your character cards or your ability to convince everyone else you have a specific card). If someone says they don't think you are a Duke and call you out, you lose a character card if you were lying. If you weren't, they lose a card. When you have 7 money tokens, you can assassinate another player to eliminate one of their character cards. Therefore, collecting money quickly and calling people out who you think are fibbing, is the game. The last person standing wins. There are elements of fibbing, selling, convincing, strategy, and elimination that are all part of the game. My family loves this. The game says 14+ but my 10 year old loves this game and tends to win a lot. If this sounds like fun, consider the Night of the Werewolf game as well--similar time to play, easy to do with the app on your phone and almost zero learning curve. The price is good. I would recommend.
