used on a fence outdoors. works well a year later
i use this on my front gate. i first installed it in wooden gate and it’s now installed in a new metal gate. over a year with this unit. at the price even if i have to replace it every couple years, its a lot cheaper than other electronic gate control options that stretch into the hundreds. since both sides are exposed to the elements i used electric grease spray to coat the interior electronics and battery compartment. your mileage may vary on the weather front as we are in a drier climate.

Great lock, great price!
Lock was easy to install and program. It automatically locks your door after you set a time. Works every time.

Do Not Buy - Critical Flaw
Update:40 days after purchase and about 2 weeks after installation, the deadbolt encountered some kind of error, locked itself, and took no codes. It emitted random beeps. Amazon brand AA's at 1.46v. FAULT MODE IS LOCKED OUT. This is a problem if no key holder is present. I'm going to give it a reset to see if it will take programming in the interim, but I'm sending it back because now I can't trust it.Update: took programming and promptly glitched again.Original review:(**)Installation was a breeze. There is no real difference between this deadbolt set and anything else on the market in this regard. Either you know how to do it or can figure it out, or not. It installed directly in place of my old deadbolt with a simple twist of the shank. Decent hardware with one extra wood screw, though longer screws for the strike are usually a good idea.Feature-wise, this is pretty sweet for the price. You can set one-time codes or manage six codes individually. I appreciate that you can have longer codes, though mathematically they throw a brick through the window. Auto-lock timer is a real bonus. You can control these particulars using the cheat sheet inside the battery cover. There is provision for some kind of remote panel or fob, but the instructions are sketchy on this.I bought this contemporary (rectangular) oiled bronze deadbolt to accompany a Schlage oiled bronze handle. It isn't the particularly lustrous partner in this companionship, though let's face the fact that you have an array of eleven white synthetic buttons populating the exterior block. It does look better and more subtly reflective at night under ultra-warm exterior lighting, and the overall appearance of the doorThe interior unit is a tad uglier. There is a 1/8" bezel between the door and the shell, rather than this seam being contained within the shell. It looks like you could use a can opener on it. The division between the battery cover and the lever housing is more pronounced than on pricier models. The cover is very thin metal, and when I reinstalled it to the grooves, the sharp edge shaved off small slivers of plastic from the inner housing. This entire assembly feels cheap and flimsy. The two included keys are very lightweight metal and I intend to replace them right away. The "bolt" of the deadbolt is a bit odd. There is a hole in the tip of the silver-colored metal bolt with a black pin of about 1/4" diameter inside that appears to run the length of the bolt. Is the silver outer a fragile sabot for the hardened core pin?The electromechanical portion is the greatest source of concern. Compared to the Kwikset #450191 this went in for, the motor sounds weak and labored. I did not have the foresight to compare the force of the deadbolt engagement, and obviously if there is an obstruction we would want these to slip, but it is extremely easy to stop the bolt from engaging. The power of the actuator, the durability of the clutch, and the quality of the motor all seem suspect to me.Overall I feel this was not a wise purchase. The value of initial quality is marginal, which may portend a tragic fumbling for keys sooner than planned. Time to test the garage door openers. If one has barred windows and secondary latches wit high security in mind, they're not shopping this deadbolt. This is a "better than nothing" solution and if you're working on a beautiful interior, double the price. It is what it is.

Page 23 instructions incorrect; reverse mount plate
Note: the mounting plate shown on page 23 of the instructions (where the upper notch is shown on the upper right) should be turned over so the upper notch is on the upper left. Otherwise the K-interior assembly won’t lie flat against the door.

Still works great 4 years later
I like this lock. It's simple and it works. For a while I had to hold the door handle shut but that had more to do with me replacing an existing deadbolt and weatherstripping and the holes not lining up properly. I eventually replaced that old terrible door and now it works great.I will note that when I bought the new door from Home Depot I had to drill a new hole for this guy; he sits further back than the default hole. I'm not sure if I could have adjusted the deadbolt instead (I was tired and really wanted the job DONE so I just hurried and drilled a hole to get this over with) but it wasn't a big deal.I suggest you download and keep the user manual---particularly the part where it talks about programming and reprogramming codes. I have people housesitting and it's extremely helpful to give them their own custom code while they are there and then delete it after they leave.

Works really great
This is the best lock that I have ever purchased. Once you have it installed and programmed it automatically locks in 30 seconds. I never have to worry about locking the door anymore. I would highly recommend getting it because it works great.

great relacement for traditional locks
I used this lock to replace a standard exterior door lock, and overall, it has been a great upgrade. It was easy to install, and the provided instructions were very helpful during the process. Setting up the master code and regular access codes was a bit tricky, but manageable. I really like that it offers the flexibility to open the door either with a code or the traditional keys. The status indicator lights are clear and easy to understand—when the door locks, you can hear a distinct locking sound, and a green light blinks to confirm. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a convenient alternative to using keys.

Battery eater
I have had this item for 9 months. My main upset with this lock is it eats batteries. It eats batteries so hard that even lithium batteries I only get a few weeks out of it. I put in regular alkaline batteries a few days ago and its already dying. When its not eating batteries it works well and as intended.
