Very informational
I bought this for my granddaughter who is in school for coding classes. I have one because I am a medical transcriptionist. The dictionary is very comprehensive and easy to use!!

Okay but not what I was looking for.
If you are looking for a compact medical dictionary to carry in your backpack and take to class this is not it. Hopefully the pictures I have posted will keep someone else from making the same mistake I did. This book is great for keeping at your desk at home to look up terms, phrases and even procedures. The type is crystal clear and easy to read. It is thumb indexed in 3 letter groupings. The key words are printed in bold san-serif type for easy scanning down the page. Many illustrations are in color and there are color photos as well. There are tables, charts and graphs to help illustrate a definition. Some definitions are multi-page. The definition for diabetes is over 6 pages long and includes types, causes, treatments, prognosis and general patient care.Although I was disappointed when I received this because it was not what I wanted I may keep it anyway. At 3 pounds it's too much of a porker to carry around but it's a great reference tool and a quality product.

Beautiful second!
I ordered an older edition from a secondary vendor at a great price. I expected to get a gently used book with possible writing or notes on the pages. I was pleased to get a pristine volume with a few errors in 3 page foldings that had rendered the pages too large to remain unfolded ( easily trimmed to fit). I believe this is termed a "second" in sales terms I was gratified to get an old standby medical dictionary's more recent edition in such beautiful condition.

Excellent dictionary!
In 2001 I bought the 19th edition while enrolled in an alternative medicine college course; when I saw that the latest edition was available I ordered it post haste. It is fully 200 pages longer, and has, of course, the latest references and terminology; also better quality photographs...some not too pleasant to look at, but, well, after all... The appendices are very informative, and I think this is a great dictionary for any family; not just for people in the medical field, or med students. And if you do buy it, don't pass over the introduction; it's worth a few minutes' read. Often I refer to this resource for general information, or when a family member or friend has a question about the body, illness or medical procedures. It has been very helpful, and clarified a lot of misinformation (or lack of accurate information) that sometimes floats around and is surmised as true. Even if you have another medical dictionary, you can't go wrong by adding this one to your bookshelf.

A must have.
If you are a student in ANY health care field you MUST have a quality medical dictionary.I became an RN in 1977. This was my constant companion then. Now a medical coding student once again, Taber is my constant companion. A newer version though.Do buy used in best condition you can find.

The Best Medical Dictionary Out There!
Not an encyclopedia and not looking for one. This is a small, easy to hold book size dictionary filled with pertinent information. I've used one of these since the 1970's. Just needed another. Don't care how utterly current it is, as this is not where I go to get updated medical information. It is what it says it is -- a Medical Dictionary with more information than the average bear.
