Dexpan 11lb. (5 Kg) Bucket

This product is incredible and a must-try! Dexpan demolished 6,000 psi CTS RapidSet 24/6 concrete with ease. The instructions recommend using 1 1/2" holes, but I achieved these results with 1-1/4" and 1" holes. Despite my shortcuts, Dexpan delivered outstanding results! I'm a huge fan of Makita, but their demolition hammers—specifically the Makita HM1203C 20 lb. SDS-MAX Demolition Hammer and the Makita HM1214C 27 lb. SDS-MAX AVT® Demolition Hammer—presented challenges. Although rated at 14 amps, they tripped a 20A circuit breaker. To avoid this, I ensured the demolition hammer was the only tool on the 20A circuit. Using demolition hammers can be labor-intensive, time-consuming, and requires multiple trips to Home Depot to rent the tools, which ate up even more time. For drilling, I used a low-powered Bosch Bulldog Xtreme to create the holes: a 3/4" pilot hole, followed by 1" and occasionally 1 1/4" holes. The instructions advise waiting 24 hours for the stone to cool after drilling, but I sprayed the holes with water to cool them immediately—just enough to darken the walls to a gray shade with a small amount of water pooling at the bottom. I mixed the Dexpan using a DeWalt cordless drill with a $6 paint mixer attachment in a e Home Depot 2 gal. Homer Bucket (RG502HD). The smaller bucket makes it much easier to pour the Dexpan into the holes. A funnel might be needed if you use a 5 gallon bucket. Twelve hours after pouring in the Dexpan, the concrete was shattered—I couldn’t believe it! The best part? The concrete broke into large, solid pieces for easy cleanup, and the Dexpan turned into a fine powder which was easily vacuumed up with a shop vac. I love Makita tools, but Dexpan really is a game changer.

I bought this product and was questionable about how effective it would be. I used it on a 30"x 60" concrete step that had been in place for approximately 54 years (no rebar). The videos I saw of how to use the product indicated you would see cracks appear anywhere from 4 to 6 hours. However, none appeared and when I looked out the next morning nineteen hours later there was still no signs of any expansion. Checking 4 hours later at the 24 hour mark as the directions indicate, still no cracks. I was very disappointed and tried to drag the block with my Kabota to no avail as it was just too large. I ventured out 7 hours later to see what my wife and her sister were up to and they indicated that indeed the steps had cracked in half. Bottom line, be patient. If you follow the directions with an eye on the temperature and I was right on the borderline of it being too cold, also the depth of my holes were a little short of what the directions call for....the product works wonderfully. I would highly recommend it. Always wear a dust mask as the powder is very fine and blows easily in the wind. Be sure to use the correct amount of water and clean up is also a breeze. I completed four holes approximately 18 inches deep and could have completed perhaps two more as a guess so make sure you have sufficient product for your job.

Magic! This stuff is amazing. I am in the process of exploding 5 Sandstone boulders. I drilled some 1.5 inches nch holes and some 1 inch holes. Mostly 1 inch. 11-12 inches deep. Pro tip: use a vacuum to suck up the dust from the holes. I poured the slurry at 4 pm at 60 degree outside and now it is 1 pm the next day. One rock split in three at midnight. The others are slowly cracking nicely. The huge one I drilled 5 holes in will take time. Cracks are developing. Next day you can add a few teaspoons of water as it starts drying. Just wow! Hard part is hammer drilling the holes. See the photos to believe it. Now I can move my dining table to this space after building a 20x20 patio. Best $50 I spent!! Funny thing is after rock separates you expect a hard cylinder but it’s just powder. I saved some in a bucket and check to see if it can be re-used! Last photos shows the powder after expansion.

The biggest drill I have is 7/8 inch that came with my Chinese hammer drill. So I drilled four holes, 9 inches deep. After about 24 hours a crack appeared and reached a width of about 1/4 inch. I had a mini excavator to use to separate the rock and it came apart. Without the machine a steel wedge might have worked. After I removed the first part of the rock, I drilled four more holes and cracked it again and now what is left is below ground level. Calculating the amount to use resulted in a lot of waste. My four holes only needed about two pounds of material. I calculated .29 oz of H2O per ounce of grout. So 9.25 oz H2O for one pound grout. The stuff is made in China and In my opinion is over priced compared to the cost of material used to make this stuff but it got the job done so it was worth the cost to me.

I was only able to get 1" holes drilled in rock, as well as no where near the recommended 80 to 90% depth, but it still worked! Amazing product.

100% would recommend to any one who has an significant concrete demolition work, but doesn't have access to heavy duty/industrial jack hammers, or are in a residential environment and don't want to be hated by your neighbors :D I had to break up a set of old concrete stairs on my own, and this just worked exactly as advertised. I didn't have the recommended/required 1 1/2" drill, but it worked with my 1" drill. It says for best results leave for 24 hours, and while that certainly does the bulk of the work, there were a few cases where not everything had broken, and after chiseling for a few hours I called it quits for the day, and the next morning found that the regions had further broken, so if you're in that position it might be worth giving an additional day to maximize the amount of success. One thing to note is that it does result in a lot of dust that I assumed would not be healthy - I don't recall in the instructions said to wear a mask, but I did and I'd recommend it, but also it was helpful to have a shop vac (or whatever) around while pulling the broken concrete apart.

I was a little slack about the amount of water (made it soupy) and the temp was lower than recommended. Also my holes were too small ( 1.125" rather than 1.5" that is recommended so I could stay with an SDS-plus drill rather than max). However despite my poor 'following directions' the next morning the 6' boulder was shattered to bits. This product is great for 95% of users...the 5% that have issues might have a bad mix or some such. My rock was hard. Took a significant amount of time to drill and I drilled with a .75" then the 1.125" bit in 2 stages to a 10" depth and the boulders seemed like really hard rock rather than a soft stone. 2 of my holes failed that I drilled through from the other side (so they weren't blind). Also the ones right at the bottom near the dirt line failed (although they may still be cooking) likely due to temperature. I did blow out water in the holes with compressed air and when I mixed the dexpan, I did it with cold water using a paddle mixer and hand drill I use for tile work. Great product, probably saved me 1000's of $.

It worked as advertised. I would recommend using a powered mixing device. Be patient and let it work.

This stuff is incredible. I was skeptical at first but am very pleased. Tried it on a basketball sized rock in an annoying place on the driveway before I do my big project. Drilled a 4” deep x1 1/8” hole hoping to just blow the cap off the rock so I wouldn’t hit it with the tractor while snowblowing. Came back next day and it was in three chunks! Very pleased. Note that instructions recommend pouring it first thing in the morning, so it has a chance to work during its “critical eight hours“ during the heat of the day. I was too cheap to buy a 1 1/2” bit, got the 1 1/8” for half the price. Seems to be working fine in the limestone I am dealing with. VERY HAPPY with this product. It is allowing me to turn a skidder trail into a road passable by cars and minivans. I have fractured a couple rocks and carefully blown the top 8” slab off others just by changing my techniques. WISH I NEW ABOUT THIS STUFF YEARS AGO!?!?! Why doesn’t Dexpan tell people about their product. BE PATIENT! Results after 48 hrs is always better than 24

Very good product

I needed access to my foundation but I had a massive rock next to it (almost touching the wall). The part that is visible in the pictures that I needed to break was about to 2 feet high and slightly more than 3 feet wide. I tried everything I could think of but I only made a dent in it. I broke concrete before and it fells like butter compared to this rock. I saw the Dexpan product. I wasn't sure I really believed the results could be as good but it was my only option left. I ordered it on Amazon and the next day I rented a rotary hammer with a 1 3/8 x 18 inches drill bit (they didn't have the 1 1/2 as recommended by Dexpan). I drilled the rock and then I filled the holes with Dexpan around 7 PM. I was really anxious and the next morning, as soon as I woke up I got out to see the rock, afraid it would still be intact but a miracle happened, it was completely cracked. It was cracked all the way down to the bottom. If you follow the instructions it really works. Highly recommended product! 100% satisfied! Hopefully I won't need it again in the future but I need to, I will not hesitate to buy again.

J'ai acheter ce produit pour fracturer la partie supérieure d'un rocher sur le côté de mon entrée. J'avais fait des troues de 3/4" en angle pour fractionnement avec des coins... pas trop efficace on me conseille votre produit, j'agrandi mes troues a 1.25", je prends ma lame au Diamant de 7" et fait une coupe tout au long de la rangée de troues pour faire une faiblesse dans la roche. De plus il y as 3 troues sur le dessus aussi à une profondeur de 16-18". J'ai passer l'air dans les troues pour les vider d'eau et impuretés, par la suite à l'aide d'une poche à coulis avec l'embouchure agrandi pour la grandeur des troues. J'ai remplis les troues à pleine capacité et réajuster les troues un après l'autres pour les assurer un remplissage maximum. Par contre au lieux de figer et de prendre expansion on dirais que le produit à fait une genre d'éruption volcanique. Et ce même dans les troues les plus verticale. Donc y as peut-être une solution que je ne connais pas, mais sinon elle n'est pas détaillé dans les instructions.
