Not super stable, but super light and fits INSIDE the instrument for storage and transport.
The good:When folded up, this thing is not much bigger than my thumb. It is just four plastic legs attached to a central cross-piece hub. It fits completely inside the bell of a standard Bb clarinet, so you can carry it inside the instrument in its case instead of needing a third hand to carry the instrument stand. It works fine for most typical performance situations. As long as you have a stable, level floor (very short carpet is also ok) then it will hold your instrument standing upright for you. Of course, use some common sense and don't put it in an area where it is likely that someone will bump into it and knock it over. And it's usually available at a pretty low price. The bad:The plastic is sturdy enough to hold an instrument, but it's still the cheap kind, so you have to be GENTLE when opening and closing the legs. The screw/springs can't get wet or they might rust. The springs are also quite small so be gentle to avoid breaking them. You should not use this on long/shaggy carpet or in high-traffic areas, nor on a moving train or truck/float... it just isn't heavy enough and the legs are too short to remain stable in those places. Also, just to be safe, avoid using this if you're playing in an area that gets a lot of wind. There are bigger/heavier stands on the market that do better in those kinds of situations. The instructions:To unfold it, gently pry the top of the leg up off of the hub; it will only lift up about 1/4 of an inch. When you lift it high enough, the plastic tab on the base of the leg should pop out of the hole on the hub. Then you can swivel the leg down until the tab pops into the other hole. Now it's locked in the open position. To close it, just reverse the process. Pull the leg sideways until the tab pops out of the hole, swivel it up until the tab pops into the original hole, and then repeat for the other three legs. If it takes any real effort to pull the leg off the hub, you're probably pulling in the wrong direction. Pull it "sideways" first to unlock it, then pull it up/down to close/open it.The bottom line:As long as you're playing in a place where a crowd doesn't get close enough to accidentally knock it over, and you have a flat floor, this thing is quite nice. Better than resting the instrument on a chair. Just be GENTLE with the stand, and remember to avoid kicking it while the instrument is on it. If it's on sale for under $15, it's worth that... though it's better if you find it for under $10.

Its okay..not the best.
This stand is nice if youre in a place where not too many people are around to knock over your instrument. It fits in the bell pretty nice, only got stuck once. Dont push it in too hard because it will get stuck. I was confused as to how to use it and unfold it the instructions were, well, non-existent other than a picture diagram on the box.I feel like this stand could be alot sturdier. If the plastic was better quality or if the center of the stand where the clarinet actually sits was a bit longer it would be sturdier, because im afraid of someone walking by and accidentally tipping it which will cause the clarinet to fall and break. But i havent had that problem yet, but i can definately see it happening. It is not very sturdy at all, but for what this stand is worth it's good. I used this stand for a good year or so before I was gifted with a Hercules clarinet pack a stand which is much more durable and a much much better quality.Overall this is an okay stand. I would reccomend it.

Buy a Hercules unless you're pressed for space.
I knew when I ordered it that it would be small- after all, they advertise that it stores in the bell. But I was still surprised how small it is. Because it's so small, and has such small legs, it isn't too sturdy. It shakes around, and feels like it'll break. If you must have something that fits inside the bell inside the case, then get it- but if you're not that mobile, or have room for something a little bigger, it might be worth it to spend 25 dollars on a Hercules stand, which looks better. In fact, I might buy one of those.Edit, about a year later, I think: I've had it for a while now, and it finally broke. It did serve me well while I had it. One of the legs snapped off. It never fell over with the clarinet on it, and it does hold the clarinet. Then again, I never took it onto a crowded stage, or anything. But for around the house, it's fine, and it's great for traveling. I do think I'll buy another one, because I mostly play clarinet away from home now (in the park, etc., so I don't disturb my neighbors in the next apartment) and I don't want to carry another piece of equipment outside my case. (Which is now a shoe box, but that's another space saving story...)

Does what it says on the can.
Very lightweight and portable little clarinet stand and one of the few which *fully* fits inside of a typical clarinet's bell for easy storage and transportation in the clarinet's case. Very easy to erect - just pull out each leg (sideways) a little, then slide and click it into place). Once set up (in seconds) it's stable with the clarinet on it. Yes, it's not made of super strong materials, so a little finnesse is required, but so long as you exercise care when opening and closing it, it should last for a long time and at this price, is not expensive to replace should you need to.

Love this little stand
This little stand is a tank! I am not a professional musician-- just play for fun in local ensembles. I've had this unit for about 2 years now & it hasn't let me down. Rating it for sturdiness, I'd give it about 8/10. If someone knocks my clarinet in the direction where there isn't a leg on the stand, it will definitely tip over, BUT that hasn't happened yet *knock on wood*. When it comes to packing it down, the springs work great & fit into the bell of my clarinet just fine. I haven't noticed any sort of scraping or signs of wear in my clarinet from storing it in the bell.

it's surprisingly still useful and more discrete than my last stand
Very surprised how compact it is. It literally fits in a box that's similar in size to a mouthpiece box. lololThough a bit flimsier then I expected, it's surprisingly still useful and more discrete than my last stand. Pretty happy with it actually. Even though it wasn't a prime item (so I had to pay shipping), it still was under $10 including shipping. lolGlad I bought it. :)
