No strategy with misguided tactics
Jamie Freveletti's 2nd Covert-One submission,The Geneva Strategy, is a significant step down from the overall quality of this series. This time out, a megalomaniac drug company CEO is kidnapping US high officials & scientists and hacking US drones. At the same time, he has a short temper and kills anyone who's work he is unsatisfied with. The basic story is rather convoluted with a tired and worn plot of creating a "disease" and just happening to have the cure (which is also the original Covert-One story). The twist this time out is using "hacked" US drone to deliver the payload. The master plan fails not only due to Covert-One operatives, but mostly because the CEO has managed to align himself with all the wretched scum on the planet, each with their own agenda.Tradecraft is almost non-existent. Smith is targeted, but the motive is unclear. A colleague at RIID who is hospitalized tries to contact him and then disappears. He's then accosted and threatened on a military base by lame goons claiming to be DHS who search his car, but still manage to leave without incident. At the same time, Randi Russell is providing bodyguard service to a US diplomat which is rather strange for a CIA agent. Smith then ends up dealing with a lawyer regarding a case dealing with an event in Africa. Eventually, Smith, Randi, and the lawyer, along with the usual cast of characters end up chasing the mystery CEO since in the end, the missing RIID scientist, the diplomat, the incident in Africa, and a kidnapped HHS official all end up wrapped up in the CEO's masterplan. And then there's the private security service that wander around like their own army without raising any concern. There are simply to many convenient coincidences to make the tale even plausibly believable. The Covert-One series has usually been a espionage read with a bio bent. This installment has little to recommend it.

Another winner!
Robert Ludlum' s stories are always non stop action from page one to the end. His characters are always interesting and you either love them or hate them. The writers who adapt his work do a very good job of keeping his writing alive.

All of the Covert One books are good reads and this book is no
This book is a book in the Covert One series of books first written by the late Robert Ludlum. Since Mr. Ludlum passed several authors have continued to develop the characters and write the stories that first attracted me to this series in the first place. I think that it's a credit to Jamie Freveletti and the other that they can write a book that stands on it's own as a novel but dovetails with the work of other authors in that the characters remain the same from book to book and author to author. I found this particular book to be a pleasure as the story had a decent plot and there were a number of twists and turns throughout that kept your interest up. All of the Covert One books are good reads and this book is no exception

I marvel that there so many interesting authors and I enjoy reading all types of books
I'm not a fussy reader, I just want to be entertained but have always wanted to read Covert One novels. I always learn something and fact check everything I don't know. I always give Authors license to facts that may be stretched to help the authors plot but don't store it under "fact". I marvel that there so many interesting authors and I enjoy reading all types of books. I'm so glad I purchased an I-phone 6 plus and it is a wonderful platform for 71 year old eyes to read on. I google all the "facts" to see if they are true all on the same device. As for the book I read it two sittings, enough said.

Excellence Throughout!
This is the kind of book that you only want to read in short segments, so that you don't get through it too quickly. From the first paragraphs, the action bounds along at a brisk pace. The core idea of the plot is somewhat unique, and the author does not reveal all its secrets until things are well along in the story. All is explained in the denouement, and no loose strings are left unattended. This is an enjoyable and very well written story, that should place the author close to the front of the line to accept the Ludlum mantle. It should not be missed by any fan of spy/adventure novels.

I like Col. Jon Smith - good character over the years; I was glad to see the relationship develop for him over the course of ther story - first time, I think. The virus in question is a little funky; it would be scary if there is really something like this, including if WE have it. This is a good read for any Ludlum, Clancy, etc. fan. I will be looking for the next one.

Another sensational read in the Covert One Series
Fast paced, interesting plot - enjoyed the read though story lacked depth in some areas and failed to close loops intrinsic to story line- like who were the Chinese hackers what happened to them. There were disparate interested parties implicated in the plot but reason and background for involvement was not clearly specified. It will be interesting to see if further books include these groups. The final scenes where Gore and Darkanin shoot each other seems out of context - not sure what that is all about. However did enjoy book but the superficiality of components of the plot take it out of the genre of a Robert Ludlum thriller.

Yet another great read
Every bit as good as the original covert one books. Story moved at a breathtaking pace making it difficult for me to put it down. If you are a covert one fan I highly recommend this book.

A hi-tech international suspense novel
This book is an extension of the Covert-One series originally produced by Robert Ludlum. It is now continued by Jamie Freveletti for the estate of Robert Ludlum. The main protagonist is Lieutenant Colonel Jon Smith, Md, of the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID). Smith surreptitiously belongs to a close-nit powerful organization referred to as Covert-One which is headed by Fred Klein and includes the president of the US and other key government personnel. The story starts off with several key persons being kidnapped and tortured. The common link seems to be that they each possess a password linked to the drone program operated out of the UK's Croughton facility and out of Djibouti. Several bizarre events take place in which a toxic substance appears to make groups of individuals go berserk. A Dr. Laura Taylor with past links to the USAMRIID and associated with developing toxic gases has also been kidnapped. The story leads to many suspenseful incidents as Smith and his allies try to identify their ruthless foes as well as their motives.
