Living with Infidels: The Diary of a Saluki-A Hound's Tail

I think you have to have been owned by a saluki to truly appreciate how well the author captures the attitude of this more than unique breed. Saluki ancestry goes back to ancient times and they KNOW this! Granted,Stella's situation of being rescued and events leading up to her being "captured by the Infidels" may have added to the feeling of being trapped,but having shared my home with a most regal and wise member of this breed,I'd have to say that the saluki attitude of being "above" the humans and merely tolerating life with them,never letting them know how fond you REALLY are of the insufferable creatures,is captured well here.

I must admit, I thought the price a bit steep for such a small book, but the excerpt I read captivated me, and I could not resist it. I have now taken to referring to my own collie princess as "Stella" when she does not answer to her name. (Any of them.)The photos are a very nice touch. I might have liked a touch more resolution to the ending--but perhaps Stella was holding something in reserve for the sequel. Kudos to Stella's jailers, who plainly love her. If only they adored and worshipped her instead...

If you're familiar with Salukis , you will love this book about Stella who longs to be running free in the desert rather than live in a home as a spoiled pet. I laughed out loud at Stella's plots to escape.

A delightful look inside the mind of a captive princess.

A very funny book, especially for people with hounds and even more for people with Salukis. Written by the prisoner herself, with day to day, true to life happenings. I (for one) hope mine will be trying to get along with me a lot better than this Bedouin Princess with her Infidels.

I could not put this book down. I have lived with salukis for over 35 years and have experienced many of the antics in this book. Brilliantly written by a true saluki lover. I continue to follow Stella on her fb page. Perfect gift for anyone that has ever experience life with a saluki!

Living With Infidels - The Diary Of A Saluki This is a superb and amusing account of the relationship formed between a Saluki named Stella and her wonderful owner. This Diary will take you through 406 days of the crazy interactions of Stella and the family whilst they were living as ex Pats from the UK in Saudi Arabia. I haven't read this book as yet, but have ordered a copy.Have been patiently awaiting it's release, having seen a sneak preview.Highly amusing at times, with some really great photographs. Funny book - especially if you own one of these unique dogs. The Wall of Death around the room! Yes! Mine does too.

A funny book in the main, and a great idea having the saluki tell her story. But it needed an editor to get hold of the manuscript and stop it becoming repetitive: each short chapter is distinguished from the next by a number only, rather than highlighting the content by having a title. Too many of these short chapters are very similar to each other in substance. Also needed a proof reader to iron out the grammatical errors. But I did enjoy the first 60 pages (about half the book) and laughed out loud at some of the saluki's misdemeanours and her disdainful regard for her perceived inferiors. Being the owner of a saluki I do appreciate what the author had to put up with!

This is definitely the book for you if you've had or have a Saluki. All our saluki's quirks are recognisable. Not sure if you would get it if you've never had a saluki princess.
