Works well.
Works as described. The set as purchased is very handy. It does require a bit of effort to hook the leads, write it all down, route the wires, then take the drive, repeating as needed. But if you have to find the source of a noise, this is really the best way. The headphone earpieces swivel around to face outward so you can hold one earpiece up to your ear and hear without having to actually wear the headphones. For those of you not sure about these things:I used to work at new car dealerships as a mechanic. This is one of the tools we used. I do remember some leads not working after a while. I'm not sure if it's abuse or quality that caused maybe two out of six to stop working after a while (a year or two). So many different people used the set. That was over a decade ago. I had no concerns ordering a new Chassis Ear for myself due to this potential issue. All six are equally loud and clear on my new, personal set. I tested them all initially by hooking them to the back of a quartz clock to check sound quality before going through the effort of hooking them up to a vehicle and routing the wires the first time. Loud, clear tick-tick-tick from each as the seconds ticked past on the clock. Nice.I used to use these using a cassette adaptor instead of the headphones, playing the output through the cars stereo. Worked great like that. I don't have that option on my truck. I was able to hook the individual microphone leads directly to my Olympus WS-300M (yeah it's old) digital voice recorder using a mono to stereo 3.5 mm adaptor so I could drive legally and listen to the recordings at home (I could actually also listen live using ear buds hooked to the Olympus if I wanted). I did the same drive 6 times, switching the lead hooked to the recorder each drive. Not as useful, as you can only do one channel at a time, but nice to know you can do it. To be clear, the 6-channel control box and headphones that come with the set work great. My alternate configurations come from me wanting to test drive alone. Headphones are a no-no for drivers here.A word about cell phones: another reviewer mentioned interference from his. Boy was he right! While testing my setup in the truck, I would occasionally hear a specific computer type noise pattern. The pattern would repeat every few minutes. Remembering the reviewers comments, I took my phone and moved it closer to the Chassis Ear control box and it about hurt me ears it got so loud. My Motorola Android definitely caused unwanted interference with my Chassis Ear. No biggie, just be aware. More than two feet apart and no trouble.

Good Product but a Tad Pricey
My old Honda Accord’s suspension squeaked whenever the car was on the road, even without going over bumps. All of the suspension parts were relatively new, and there was no looseness anywhere. I sprayed silicon lubricant on all of the bushings and still could not find the cause. I decided to give this a try, and on my first try, I determined that it was the upper control arm, which was only a year old and showed no movement, even when lifting with a 36-inch pry bar. It is a tad pricey for one use, but I am glad that I bought it. No more squeaks after replacing the control arm.

works great
Used these to diagnose a noisy transfer case. Case was noisy and I heard a disc brake rubbing because of a slightly stuck pin. Worth the money. You need to know what a bad bearing, a dragging brake, or other things sound like to use this.

Good for identifying noise sources on vehicles.
It’s amazing how much you can hear with these microphones. They are inside spring clamps that hold well. Easy to use and zero in on what components are having issues before they become bigger problems. They function well and you do have to route the cables away from any moving parts. You can find many uses for them, my favorite is clamping them to each fuel injector and listen for the pinging of clean injectors or the dull click of dirty ones.

Nice...but.. The case cuts my fingers and is way too difficult to close.
I loved the idea of this product. I choose it as a Christmas gift for myself from my parents to diagnose a tire roar sound in my dad's truck. Alas, no good deed goes unpunished. I was able to isolate the noise to it coming from the rear wheels or axle. I moved the clamps on the rear left and right side and now one side is loud when it was silent and the silent side is now loud. So I was going to return it but I read that I would be possibly be charged the returned shipping and 15% restocking fee if it was unopened despite the guarantee of satisfaction. The case is impossibly cheap and impossible to close unless you sit on it. I cut my finger on the case's sharp plastic locking latch and it hurts my fingers to close with the sharp closing latch even with gloves because of the shock it sends through them. I told my mom for something that cost a $100 they couldn't spend another 15 cents for a better case. It will stay on my shelf useless as I am not wanting to feel the pain of using the tool or I find or buy a better case for it. Either way I have not been able to isolate the noise so I'm rating the item i received 2.5 stars. Everything I received was new. I was so excited to finaly have it! I feel it a shame it will just collect dust now.

The best thing I have bought in a while
Growling noise on 98 GM with tire rotation frequency. Could only be heard above 15mph with windows up. Could not distinguish where it was coming from. Had a buddy stick out his head of window. Nada! Only could hear through resonance of cab.Got this and started with front IFS differential. Passenger side outer needle bearing for axle shaft was singing while another mic on pumpkin was audible but quiet.1 month of head scratching and looking like an idiot whipping my head around was diagnosed before I could get out of the driveway. A short trip down the road and it was super obvious what the problem was. I haven't taken it apart yet but expecting a single needle bearing is cracked in half and the cracked ends are grating against each other. This is a must have item. Comes with Velcro straps to secure cables to chassis and manage cords while stored. Battery included. Great case properly foam filled with pouch for leads that fit withing the case.Buy this thing!Update: No cracked needle bearings. Just excess wear. Popped in a new Timkin and seal. Noise is gone. This really lets you hear things well. Without it I might have rebuilt the whole IFS. Money saver!
