Outstanding Crossbow For Beginner or Experienced Hunter
I purchased this crossbow hoping for increased speed and accuracy out to 70 yards. The Barnett Whitetail Hunter STR delivered both. I bought this xbow last Spring 2021. Assembly was rather easy with the bow portion to stock being the most difficult. The fit was extremely tight After assembly I tried one shot at 10 yards at a crossbow target. The 125 grain field point on the included 22" bolt buried this self about 8" into the target slightly higher than the point of aim without any adjustment to the scope. The next several shots were from the 20 yard distance. Bolt point of impact at target was the point of aim. I had a better quality lighted crossbow scope available that I mounted on at this time. The next sighting in shots were done with 20" bolts and 125 grain field points out to 70 yards. Accuracy was very good at all distances, but opened up as the distances increased. At 70 yards groups were slightly greater than 3". PROS: Price Accuracy, use different points ofaim so as not to destroy bolts. Light Weight CONS: Scope of Good Quality, Could Be Better String Cocking Device, Hook Axle feel out after 50 shots Picture of target at 70 yards, outdoors with slight wind. Deer taken with Whitetail Hunter STR at 45 yards, Buck went 40 yards after hit. I would definitely recommend this crossbow.

Great bow
The only negative thing I have to say is that shipping was stated as 2 days (it took 6). Other than that I’m extremely happy with the crossbow. I had it put together within 15 minutes (including the scope upgrade I purchased separately). The instructions were fine but the pictures showing the bow were very bad (hard to make out the details). The cocking rope is sufficient length for me at 6’2” (the instructions say it can be shortened, but I’m not sure how as mine is very tight already and I need to pull the string back a half inch to get the second hook on the string). The bow has a lot of power and Easily reaches 60 yards (and still drives a 22” bolt up to the vanes in a block target). I made the first 20 shots and tightened the bolt as instructed. I’ve shot at least 50 times today since I got it. No problems, quality craftsmanship, consistent groups and a good price.. I also have already realized that if you put a decent scope on this bow it will pile bolts one on top of the other (I’ve already split a carbon express in half at 40 yards and took the nocks off of 2 other bolts). I’m happy. It doesn’t disappoint and actually exceeded some expectations.

Truly the best in its price range. Consistently impressed.
2nd year, 2nd deer . I'm a new hunter. My buddy did days of research and landed on this. I couldn't find something that looked better in the price range so I went with the Whitetail Hunter STR too. Glad I did. Consistently impressed. Good scope, very rugged design, easy to set up and use, easy to maintenance, fine to get wet, very accurate, holds zero, detachable quiver with built in broadhead wrench, aftermarket straps aren't expensive, great pattern and style, not too heavy, very ergonomic, easy to cock (just make sure you cock it all the way, not hard to do.) The more built-in style stirrup design is way better, more compact and rugged than traditional stirrups. Safety operates well. Literally zero complaints after pretty heavy use in warm, cold, wet conditions, going through lots of thick foliage, etc. I wouldn't buy any other model even close to its price range, there's just no reason to. Go for this.

Pretty good for the money
This bow should be between 3.5 and 4 stars. I have about 30 shots with it now. It is very accurate, draw weight wasn't too bad. Trigger feels good. A couple of problems, that if addressed would make a big difference. The instructions are near useless. The manual appears to be written for every crossbow Barnett has now or ever made, meaning there are no specifics about the bow you order. The rope is about an inch to short, have to pull the bow string a little to get it to loop around. The scope is ok, though the lines seem to mean nothing for consistent spaced distances using the arrows and field tips that come with the bow. I could see looking into a better quality scope. I sighted mine in at 25 yards and the second line was spot on at 40 yards. Have not been able to shoot out past that distance yet. All that being said, for an budget/entry level bow I think it is a pretty good value. I have no doubt reliable and accurate shots can be made out to 60+ yards. I'm looking forward to trying it out on deer this coming season. Update: Have shot around 80 bolts now. Impressed with accuracy. Scope is definitely a weak spot, but usable. It didn't seem to be holding zero, took the scopes and rings off, remounted with loctite and torque wrench; much better now. Eye relief is very long on scope, have to have my cheek all the way back on rest; even with spacer all the way out and scope mounted at front of rail. Picture with bag setting on block is at 70 yards just using a bipod. I re-sighted in scope and using the original arrows with original field points I found the lines on the scope to be: 20 yards, 35 yards, 55 yards, and 70 yards. Haven't shot past that distance. Keeping the strings well waxed seems to be vital to good accuracy. Overall, still happy with the purchase.

surprised and very happy
I got this deliverd about an hour ago prior to writing this, this was stupid easy to put together. that i really liked, took it in my yard where i have a 50 foot archery range set up and fired it three times to see where it was sighted in at. right out of the box at 50 feet the elivation is spot on, with it shooting almost 2 inches to the right. i going out to the big range later to set the sights at 75 yards and will adjust everything there. the rope cocker that came with it seemed short to me, but i used it first and it worked great, then i tried my other cocker as i have two other cross bows, and tried it. dont, use the one that came with it unless you better than 6feet tall. i 5'6.5" and it was too long for me. the one that comes with it seems short, but is great. one of my bows is a recurve at 200lbs, this bow is stouter than that, without a scale i can not tell you what the pull is, but that 200lb recurve pulls easier than this one so be ready. the trigger made me fall in love with it, i have the recurve as well as an older horton compound, and those feel like bricks compared to this one. it is smmoth as my ar and my 320. both of those are 4lb, this is very close to that. both my other bows have a metal spring that holds the bolt in place, this has brushes. will have to wait and see how they hold up, but seems very nice and secure. over all i wish i could give this a seven star review thus far, this feels great and shoots better than any of my other bows. i would be hard pressed to tell someone to skip on this. Ok, after a few weeks, and about 100 bolts fired trough it here is my new thoughts. I am still in love with this, very accurate at 80 yards (ish) as the archery range is not properly marked out. shot completly trough a 12 inch target. have not had the chance to hunt with it as rifle season was on when i got it. I feel very good about this bow and my son is now looking to get himself one as well. Very much worth the money!

If you're on the fence, dont be......
If you're on the fence about buying a crossbow for hunting, dont be. I was skeptical about getting one because I have hunted with a compound bow and had success with that and I felt like the crossbow was cheating a bit. That is not really the case. Shooting the crossbow has less of a learning curve as compared to compound bow or recurve but you still need to practice with it, keep consistent form, and stay within your comfort zone for shots on a deer. I'm in the 40 yards or less camp, I know I can hit farther and I'm sure people do, good for them, it's not for me. It's up to you how far you want to go after a wounded deer in the dark. Anyway, the bow was easy to assemble, easy to sight in (pretty accurate out of the box, minor tweaking needed) and is pretty light. The only concern I have is the noise. Makes a pretty good "thunk" when shot but not as loud of a crack as I was expecting. I think some limb dampeners are happening in the near future but that bolt is really cruising so I think at "bow range" the deer would be unlikely to "jump the string" bad enough to where a good shot would turn into a bad one, still possible but that's hunting. So far, I have my first 20 yard "pin" (top line in the crosshairs) dialed in and shoots a group about the size of a half dollar. This was also a great option because I hunt from the ground and in ground blinds where I have a hard time maneuvering a compound bow for a shot. It's a great crossbow for the price and frankly, if it helps you put a better shot on an animal why wouldn't you do it?

Great bow for the money
I bought this new Barnett Whitetail Hunter STR crossbow to replace a 175 lb Barnett Predator crossbow I bought new in 2006. The Predator was awkward and front heavy but deadly to hunt with ( I killed some really nice bucks with it over the years). I'm 70 now with arthritic hands and a newly replaced shoulder and need something lighter and better balanced but just as powerful. This bow fits that perfectly. It cocks using the same effort as the old crossbow and shoots perfect groups out to 50 yards using the same bolts and field points. I did replace the included scope with a much better lighted one. I also had a little trouble with assembly because of the arthritic hands but other than that I highly recommend this.for purchase.

Easy to assemble, very strong.
Opening the package I had some light struggle reading the assembly instructions but everything went smoothly and was very clear. The scope is bigger than I thought and looks very well made. Ive only fired it once into a targetting block but sighting the scope is very straight forward. I cant wait to go Wild bearded turkey hunting this spring. Lots of reviews made me buy this and im not dissapointed.

Probly one of the best in its class
I checked out alot of crossbows and this one was nicer then most at a higher price it's a little longer but not overly heave like other ones I tried . The only weak point is the scope and that's like all of them tell you get up on the 700- 900 dollar range so I got a new scope at a good price but as for it all it's a good crossbow and get some bowjax limb bampeners these thing are fast and it helps to silence bow and take vibration out will save bow in the long run. And a bow that shots little lower then 400 fps wont plane asmuch and can use more different broadheads

Good crossbow cheap scope
Crossbow is very good but the cheap scope that comes with it pitch it straight in the trash can

Speed
First shot on a deer. Abit loud but powerful. Quiver is terrible and sits parallel with the stock. Fingers in the way. Quiver holds 3 arrows only. Comes with only 2 arrows . Thats a bit cheap for such a big company.

Best crossbow ever
My husband’s father gifted this to my husband before he died last summer. We received it the weekend before he passed away and wanted to show it to him but realized upon arriving at the hospital that bringing a weapon into a government building was not the brightest idea… That being said, he took down a large male moose (1593lbs) in October of 2024 (Gaspésie, Qc)
