Disappointing performance for a Uway camera
Disclosure: I did not buy this through Amazon; bought it direct from Uway. Also, I don't use it to take pictures of "paranormal activities", just deer and turkeys (although sometimes their activities do seem paranormal).I own four other HCO / Uway cameras (three NX-50's and an older ScoutGuard) that have been workhorses, but I am very disappointed in this model. First, it recommends either lithium ($$$$) or NiMh (rechargeable) AA batteries. You can use regular alkaline AA batteries but will not get good battery life. Sometimes it doesn't even have enough "ooomph" to complete a 30 second video. Second, the maximum video length it will do is 30 seconds - not enough in my opinion but a moot point given the battery issue. Third, it never did work at all with the Uway flash extenders using their "plug & play" connecting cable - it would not trigger the external flash. (Yes, I know about the menu option for "Int", "Ext" and "Int + Ext" illumination and had it programmed correctly. I use the Uway flash extenders on all my cameras.) Finally, the internal flash died completely so now it is essentially a "daytime only" camera. A buddy of mine bought one at the same time and has had exactly the same problems as I have had. I thought about sending it back to Uway but didn't feel like investing the time and shipping expense for a camera that didn't really meet my needs in the first place. I should say, though, that customer service at Uway has always been top notch. If you want a workhorse and don't mind "red" instead of "black" IR flash, get the NX-50. It's been discontinued by Uway but you can still find some on Amazon. I'm going to try the Uway VH200B next.
