The House of Bernarda Alba

This video helped some of my students to better understand Lorca's work. However, depending on your community, be sure to preview it. Take note on when to pause/stop/jump as some scenes may upset some parents.

I originally had a copy of this video from 2005, which I recently lost. Am happy to say that the 2015 copy I just received is perfect with respect to synchronization of voice and picture. Also, the English subtitles are now complete and accurate. Best version of this play available, by far. Not available on youtube, as are so many others. Recommend highly.

Excellent film to supplememt study of Casa de Bernarda Alba in AP Spanish Literature classes

Fabulous movie. I use it in my Spanish lit class in conjunction with the original text by Garcia Lorca. The students love it and it's wonderful for discussion. Great video!

This film IS beautifully filmed and acted. But the soundtrack is not synchronized with the actor's dialogue and it is frustrating to watch. Also, the English subtitles are messed up. Complete phrases and sentences are missing. If one is not fluent in Spanish, the English subtitles are of no use.I was disappointed to have purchased an inferior product.

Very reliable to the play written by Federico Garcia Lorca

The Film is great but what a disaster, watching this DVD!I usually do not complain but this time I will send a letter to all involved with the making or distributing this DVD. The transfer quality is inferior to the print I saw in 1990. The subtitles are useless and they are only half sentences at times on the screen and you are wondering what you are reading. The soundtrack is off and it is irritating. If you are a fan of the author or the movie, get the DVD, but you must understand a little Spanish.

La Casa de Bernarda Alba is, in my opinion, the greatest of Frederico Garcia Lorca's plays and this film was made with anoutstanding cast. It is the story of the daughters of a widow who rules her house with a rod of iron and how this repressiveupbringing affects them. I have tried for years to obtain this dvd but without success. At last after searching weekly in amazonit ceased to be unavailable and was advertised from America' at a price and damned by a review which criticised the soundand subtitling. All this is unfortunately true as I discovered when I bought the disc but I have no regrets and I am the ownerof a masterpiece which may never be obtainable in a better edition.
