Mad About You: Season 5
S**N
A Memorable Series With Some Very Funny Writing
This was an enjoyable sitcom from the 1990's starring Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser. Most of the shows are very funny, some hilarious, some will touch your heart. The last two seasons of Mad About You have not been released yet. I'd say its about time. If this was a favorite show then I suggest you add it to your DVD collection. The character of Ira Buchman is played by John Pankow, who is the younger brother of James Pankow, trombonist with the popular rock group Chicago. Some of the funniest scenes are between Ira and Paul. Leila Kenzle plays Fran, Jamie's friend. Richard Kind plays Fran's husband and he has som hilarious scenes. Many of my favorite shows center around their dog Murray. There is one Thanksgiving episode called Giblets for Murray that is superb. The string of guests that appear is also great. Billy Joel, Sid Caesar, Mel Brooks, Lyle Lovett. Look the series up on th imdb and you can see all the shows and guests. Please release seasons six and seven !!!!!!!!!!One word about the quality. The first season comes in a plastic box with all 24 episodes on 2 discs. The quality is not that great. I believe the rest of the season 2-5 are all on 4 disc packages. There is a cardboard sleeve over the disc box which is very difficult to get off. My season 2 ripped. Season 1 needs to be redone for better quality. Such classic shows on season 1 such as when Paul and Jamie first met.Trivia question. Where have you seen Jamie's obstetrician ? Hint ... On Star Trek, but what character

Wonderful, Beautiful, Marvelous!
Okay, the praises are a bit over stated... or are they? The fact of the matter is, this is one of the best series ever produced. Why?First, intelligent dialogue that might actually happen. Consistent throughout series!Second, wonderfully cast roles. Seriously. The casting director deserves an Emmy.Third, generous attention to details. Nuanced performances.Fourth, actually filmed in NY, unlike that 'other' series - you know the one.Fifth, a whole series story arc. Many shows get bogged down in same ol' same ol'Sixth, growth in characters. How often is this aspect not included? Too often!Seventh, you care about these people, truly care. How rare is that?Expecting the release of the final two seasons by what? 2013 maybe? We hope. And then the Blu Ray will inevitably come. There was criticism in Season 5's video. I didn't experience the blotchy thing they spoke of (which happens on digital with fast actions, quick motions). I would notice, too, since I am a photographer and artist. The 'extras' were, as has been the case with this series, skimpy. But I don't really need commentaries and interviews (a few are included throughout). Sometimes a show can just stand on its own without comment. This one does. It's all there, if you're paying attention.

A Wonderfully Funny TV Series!
I loved this comedy in the time of its original heyday, and I now enjoy so much, the comedy of each of the characters on this show. "Mad About You" is one of those shows where you wish that all the characters were someone in your family, or living in your neighborhood, or working with you - they are so real, funny and relatable. Even Murray the dog is a funny character - you just want to love him to pieces! Each episode of this season are great, culminating of course with Paul and Jamie having the baby. "Mad About You" is comedy at its best, the kind of comedy that somehow can't be found too much these days. I enjoy watching each season as it comes out, tremendously. My only complaint and regret is that it takes so very long for the seasons to come out! I don't know why that is, but please, put a rush on the next seasons because this is such a great show and should be available for purchase to the many people who I'm sure want to watch.

Enjoyed seeing Season 5 again
Even though the show sort of jumped the shark with the birth of the baby, it was fun to see many of the pregnancy episodes again like chosing the doctor, the one where they tell everyone, the great crib fight, and of course the birth-I am a sucker for those sentimental kind of episodes. I did not notice the poor quality that some have reported on some scenes perhaps because I watch on a wall mounted tv. I am just happy that Shout is finally putting out the rest of the Mad About You seasons so I can collect the complete set. I did notice that commentary seems to be limited to what they did for the compilation CD (of all the seasons) that was done a long time ago. For that and possible blurring I give this four stars instead of five.

Always one of my favorite series
Loved this show when it was on the air, and was glad a year or two ago to see DVDs for some of the seasons, and like many people, was frustrated when it seemed like we'd never get 5, 6, or 7.I was very happy when season 5 came out, since in my opinion season 4 was the worst of them all (but still decent). I hated that my collection ended with that low point in the series life. Season 5 is where it started getting good again.Quality is good, no problems with sound or video anywhere on any of the discs. I have captures of seasons 6 and 7 but not great quality, so now I'm just waiting for the next DVD's to some out. At least there's word that it won't be as long between now!

Thank God that Shout! Factory acquired the rights!!!
Sony released the first three seasons. Season 3 was released nearly four years after the release of Season 2. On February 22, 2010, Shout! Factory acquired the rights to release the remaining seasons. They released the fourth season on June 29, 2010. Instead of waiting four years, they're releasing Season 5 on November 2, 2010.For those of us who have waited years and years for this to happen, thank you! Sony really missed out. As another reviewer said, every piece of rubbish from 40 - 50 years ago has been released, but an award-winning series with an Oscar-winning actress was shelved. Please, Shout! Factory, release Seasons 6 and 7! Thank you!

They don't make shows like this anymore, sadly.
I wish there were shows written like Mad About You today. You get the feeling these two are really married to each other, the chemistry is that powerful. And the scripts are extraordinarily well written too! I just wish these had subtitles for deaf and hard-of-hearing.

gut
Ich liebe diese Serie und die Schauspieler sind gut auf englisch zu verstehen. Leider spielte mein DVD-Player die DVDs nicht (Ländercode) aber eine Freundin half mir mit ihrem aus.

I will deny all knowledge of this if asked
My wife loves this show. She has for a very long time, since before we started going out. I would catch her watching it and I would roll my eyes. Then, one Christmas, I decided to get her a boxset and found that like so many other popular US shows we couldn't get them over here. So I've started getting her one a year. At first I would stick in my headphones and find something to read but it's started to get under my skin. If you ignore the copious levels of rom com cheese and the sickeningly smug cameos that flood this show it's actually pretty good. It has moments when its sincere, when its strange and its got a point. Sure, it throws it all away with in jokes and over the top drama at times, but still it's not bad. It's laugh. Unless my wife asks. In which case I'd rather watch something else. (Worryingly I think this whole thing fits with the message of the show. Darn.)
