Simplicity 1369 Women's Skirt Sewing Pattern, Sizes 6-14

I have an issue with finding clothing that fits my body. Not a problem with this pattern! There are instructions for 3 skirt lengths, with the options of pockets, overlays and piping. It is simple to size each part of the pattern to fit your measurements, and the only extra equipment I had to buy was a $3 invisible zipper foot for my sewing machine.

This was one of the simpler patterns ive used. I absolutely love it and have purchased several different fabrics and made skirts using it!!

In a major dept store I would purchase a size 10 or 12 skirt. I made this as a size 14. I have read that patterns are often smaller than store sizes. With a pattern you have to go by the measurements and ignore sizes.I changed this to use 2 fabrics and made a gored skirt - 4 panels in front, 6 in back. I put elastic in the waistband as casing, no zipper. To do that i needed the yoke the same size as the skirt. And so needed to add 1 more yoke piece.If you have enough fabric, I would suggest cutting the yoke waist band in larger pieces, not so many small ones .

Easy design, but the instructions almost seem to skip steps.

This was a gift purchase for a relative. She has since indicated that the product arrived as pictured with the patterns in the sizes indicated.

Terrible, terrible instructions. If you are a beginner, beware. I have a master's degree in communication and could not make head's nor tail's of these horribly illustrated directions. I found a "sew along" for it on YouTube, but it was cut off mid-way. To see the second half, I had to sign up to a subscription service (luckily, they had a $5 annual subscription Black Friday sale). But, frankly, the video wasn't that great. The instructor, a 35-year veteran pattern maker at Simplicity, flew through the video without properly showing her process and skipping an important step. My advice to pattern-makers is to sit down with beginners when crafting "easy" patterns (all patterns, really). Take notes on where they get confused and include extra instructional text or clearer explanation. Then, watch another beginner test the new instructions.I think a lot of times veteran pattern-makers forget what it's like for those of us starting. They have all this great knowledge and skill downpat. We don't. In the end, I watched a lot of different videos on attaching the waistband and ended up with a pretty skirt. But a lot of time wasted trying to slog through bad instructions.

Had to watch a youtube tutorial to double check I was doing the right thing before I started on this project. Great for beginners.
