Schlage 999478 Chain, Cinch Ring Security, 1/2" Shackle, 5' Length

Works great and a perfect match.
This security chain is massive and heavy. I bought this to secure items at our RV when we are away from camp.Nothing is theft proof, but this chain will require them to spend a lot of time and make a lot of noise. And noise will wake up my two guard dogs, Smith and Wesson. Their bark is almost as bad as their bite!!!The chain is triple heat treated, 1/2 inch hexagonal sided links, and is made with manganese steel. The hexagonal links thwart bolt cutters as well as the extra strength from heat treating. And manganese steel is resistant to abrasive cutoff wheels. It can be cut, but time and speed are a thieves enemy (along with my two dogs, Smith and Wesson).

MASSIVE! Probably overkill for just about everything except the worst neighborhoods, but sturdy!
So these are HEAVY chains. Surprisingly heavy. I really do think they are probably overkill in this 12mm size for most purposes, but for what they are, they are nice. The cinch ring is really a great idea, giving you more length with less chain. I got them to secure some very expensive mountain bikes if they need to be left reasonably unattended. They could steal the vehicle easier than they could get through these chains. They are also annoying, in that they are unwieldy and a pain to actually use due to their size and weight. Unless you are SURE you need this level of security, I really think I would consider going down to like 8mm, but you can't go wrong with these Schlage chains (which I have heard are the mfg for Kryptonite chains as well).

WOW!
Sturdiest heavy duty chain I’ve ever seen! It’s awesome! Very heavy, but totally worth the money! If you need security, buy this chain!

Liked it so much I've purchased 3 of them!
We all know that with enough time and the correct tools nothing is impenetrable. But this chain is as close as you're going to get to stopping a perp because unless he has a lot of time and some sort of electric grinding tool and or a 5 foot bolt cutter he's not getting through this chain any time soon. If one were going to steal something this chain is locked to, the attack point might shift to the lock or what the chain is wrapped around because this thing is an animal and it might be easier to attack a "weaker" part. Though it's made in China it seems to be made well. There is a cover to the chain that has velcro wrapped through the link so it can't shift when you're trying to loop it through something. This was a big help because I was feeding the chain through the seat frame of my truck and it was a very tight fit. The weight alone tells you that this chain means serious business (approx 6 lbs). If I had a complaint it would be that the black cover that covers the chain leaves too many links exposed. I understand it's like that for the ring to cinch the chain and then you lock your padlock through it but in my case it makes too much noise when I shift my gun safe around. I used heat shrink tubing to keep the links quiet and now it's much quieter when I move the safe around. Right now I'm using them in conjunction with my gun safes (Fort Knox) in my trucks (wrapped around the seat frame) and in my house as well. I feel very confident that the safes are staying put . The cinching action of the ring allows the chain to to extend further than if you had to lock both links with a padlock. Highly recommended!------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I rely heavily on reviews when I make purchases so I put some time into reviewing everything I buy on Amazon for personal or business use so I can help other people considering that item. Certainly hefty
I bought this to lock up my and my wife's e-bikes when they are attached to our bike carrier. It's long enough for my situation and it certainly looks beefy; I hope I'll never find out if it stands up to a bolt cutter attack.I also got this lock, because of it's molybdenum shackle: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001V5IYWE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. It BARELY fits with the chain, which is actually good since that leaves minimal room for a bolt cutter to attack. (It fits pretty easily through the loop, and just barely through two links.)

This is actually the Kryptonite New York Noose (it is one and the same) at less than half the price.

decent chain
the description of the product is all over the place ; it says 59 inch and 12mm in the title , when you read the description it says 152.4 centimeters then in the Schlage description it is described as 5 feet 1/2 inch (152.4cm and 12.7mm).It is 150cm (59 inches) long the links are 12mm (.472 inches)It seems like splitting hairs but that is a +/-2% difference in length and +/- 5% cross section differencePlease Schlage stop fudging your imperial-metric conversions, my wife seems to believe an inch shorter makes a big difference

Disuasivo

A scary beast !
After watching a few videos on how thieves brake bike locks and how to secure bikes, I decided to get rid of this braided wire cable (that I bought here as well) and picked this 3 feet long Schlage to complement a secure U lock I already had. Most "pros" will tell you to secure your bike with two U locks, but I find that configuration a bit restrictive. I debated whether to buy this 3 feet model vs the 5 feet version, which was on special on top of that. To put things in perspective, I am securing a Kona 120supreme that cost almost $5,000 when it came out. I keep the bike inside my place - I already had 2 bikes stolen before ...also located inside, but not secured. So with this chain I'm making sure it doesn't happen again. So this version, as it turns out, is perfect. It's a monster of a chain and will scare away the parasites that live off other people's hard work. The lock is intimidating. the ONLY 2 things that will get through are 1)a diamond blade circular saw and 2) a welding torch. And those two will cut anything there is anyways. The chain is heavy which presents the following drawback, apart from the obvious transport issue: leaving such heavy weight against the spokes may eventually damage them. This model is JUST long enough so that I can set it at the floor level of the front wheel and tie it to the U lock that secures the rear wheel/frame area - thanks to the cinch. Totally recommend this chain...it's a beast and value for money it doesn't get any better than this.

One Hefty Chain
This 6 lb chain with .47" thick links looks and feels more massive once it's in your hands and will certainly look like a challenge to any thief that doesn't have a portable angle grinder. Now that I have it, I realize that this chain is best suited for home use for long term bike storage at home, because to get a matching lock that is not the weak link, you need a 3 lb lock, so combined, you're carrying around almost 10 lb of security with you. I have since bought a lighter chain lock that I use for quick trips where I don't expect to linger too long at my destination with my bike not protected to the max. Although I believe it would be hard to find a more secure chain or lock than this, I give it 4 stars because the protective sleeve does not cover the length of the chain. It only covers about 27" of its length leaving almost 10" of raw heavy metal that can drag over your bike paint easily leaving scratches. I am now on a quest to find or make a sleeve that covers the full length. When buying a bike lock, remember, ANY cable lock can be quietly cut with the proper cable cutters in under 5 seconds. Bolt cutters would require extensive effort to cut through this chain, but a portable angle grinder with a metal cutting blade will be through this chain in under a minute as would be the case for even the best Kryptonite U-lock, so nothing is impervious. It's simply a matter of how much noise and sparks a thief has balls enough to implement to get to your bike, but this lock will need lots of sparks, noise, and balls.
