My favorite racing game - best in the Wipeout series
Upgradeable anti-grav units. Easy to handle controls. Ample unlockables that actually add replay value. And yes, I love the music. I can't say enough good things about the Wipeout series, and Wipeout Fusion continues the fun ride that began back on the PSX. This remains my favorite racing game of all time, and one of the reasons why I really don't need a PS3.

fine addition to Wipeout franchise
i have to preface this by saying i have a newer PS2 and i have finished the first 10 AG races though i am still less than 30% done with the game they say. first i would like to respond to all the "hugely disappointed" wipeout fans out there. please stop "sighing" and whining. i ordered this game and then read the bad reviews here and i was torn up about the game being junk but when i got in it turns out that Wipeout Fusion is still SONY's franchise player so take heart fans. i read complaints about the MUSIC not being done by the chemical bros. i guess that "fan" didn't find much worthy about the original Wipeout. the music is great if you go in for this kind of music (btw, the chem bros are way overrated. yeah, the first track on the remix disk "drugstore cowboy" is good but the rest of it is wack). the music could have been a a bit more positive. what's Cold Storage up to these days? As far as SPEED goes i think there is plenty of it though there could be more if the tracks weren't so narrow. there are a number of "jaw dropping" moments out there and some really nice touches with absent guard rails and stuff. very challenging TRACKS with lots of diversity. if you slam into a wall you might pop through and need to be rescued but with some practice you will acquire the necessary skill to race properly without training wheels so keep trying. the AI is good and you are never all alone. I agree, though, that ship physics have taken a hit. you must use air brakes constantly to make the thing turn at all (i've raced three different ships all loaded) and the tracks are so narrow that the days of carving turns in your auricom are gone and now its asimply a matter of staying off the walls as much as possible. i prefer the old style wall-bump speed penalty versus the new damage infliction. plus, that scraping along the side in wipeout xl was awesome and that just spells damage in Fusion. the absence of the DESIGNER'S REPUBLIC team does suck. the dopey dime a dozen characters in DR's stead bring the game down. i wish someone would go back to the original wipeout and realize that the future world in all its coolness and graphic design and seriousness as a legitimate racing sport was a huge part of the love for this game and has disappeared since. Lets leave the goofy kid's stuff to the 99% of the rest of the cookie cutter time waster games out there. sony fumbled on that one. IN CONCLUSION Bam did a respectable job and the game is definitley a keeper. i hope we see more editions only let's get back to the roots of the thing - staying off the walls while carving turns and cornering in different ships. message to SONY: RECOGNIZE.P.S. i am a fan of the series so you may want to take off a star for that. if you are curious though you should definitely pick up the earlier wipeouts. The original PS1 Wipeout still can't be beat.

Strictly average
Not good, not bad; completely mediocre. Which is a shame, because the gameplay is pretty good. The music is oppressively simple, to the point that it's actually depressing.Compare the intro to WipEout XL/Wip3out, to this effort... it's a major step down in quality. I almost feel like the "artists" were deliberately mocking the Designers Republic.

I love this series - so maybe I have a slight bias. As far as arcade style racing games, wipeout is one of the best, and deserves a bigger following.

Mediocre rehash of a much beloved game series
Let's go back a few years. I bought a Playstation _so_I_could_play_ WipeOut XL. That's 360 bucks for one game. Wonderful graphics and tracks, a powerful soundtrack by incredible electronic artists. Still play it, love it, even though it's pre-analog controller and the graphics are early Playstation era. It's one of those games that makes you want to shoot fireballs out of your hands. Jump forward a bit. Wipeout 3. OH MY GOD. BOOM. Aural, god-like soundtrack, blistering speed, BETTER graphics than XL, and an interface design that destroys all that stand in its path. I haven't seen a game since that tops it for overall focus of intent and feeling. It is a work of art....So I HAD to get Wipeout Fusion. Atari-era soundtrack of bad techno. No energy in the music.I think they may have actually de-evolved the game to produce this definite SEQUEL. Puerile ship designs and world treatments. Think cotton candy compared to XL's patinated steel or 3's crisp diamond edge. The prior game producers (original, XL and 3), Psygnosis, must be crying over this butchery. BAM! did an awful job with this game. Turning action is jumpy, there aren't movement cues where there should be, there are exagerated movement and visual cues where there REALLY shouldn't be. Ship and weapon noises take two steps back. The menu interface is bad, and the visual atmosphere employed both in and out of the race just falls flat. The design of all elements is overly commercial, uninteresting, bland. The introduction of characters into the game is needless and gimmicky, and brings a feeling of GTA3 meatheadedness to what should be a hard, fast, and beautiful sci-fi racing game. I'm going to try playing again tomorrow, with the music off, and with a clear head, and see if I'm still as negatively focused on this game. For now however, I'm pronouncing that from this corner of the WipeOut fan crowd, the consensus of one is unanimous: this game BLOWS.

Racing Blast From The Past For Your PS2....
I didn't have this one back in my college days but I kinda wish I had. I had Wipeout 3 for my PS1 in high school and it was always a blast to play, pun intended. I've always found the Wipeout series to be slick, artsy, and stylish with slamming techno soundtracks to back them up. You've never played another futuristic racer quite like this one (F-Zero maybe, but there's enough differences to set this one apart from its Nintendo hover race counterpart). I'd also thought about snagging one of the Crash Team Racing games that came out on PS2 but all the "character" games i.e. Crash Bandicoot, Spyro The Dragon, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, etc. are kinda cost prohibitive unless you can find a good deal which is what I'm after anymore when it comes to collecting PS2 games. This game arrived in perfect condition complete with the original case and instructions. You almost never see that anymore when you buy used games. I'll definitely be doing business with Seattle Goodwill again.

Fun wipeout game, but with a little glitch.
Fun wipeout game, but is unable to create uncorrupted save games. Unsure if the game had this problem upon original release or just this copy.
